🔎 In 2017 a research team led by Charlotte Kenchington published several new fossils discovered in the rocks of Charnwood Forest. 📄 The study included three new species of the 560 million year old fossil Primocandelabrum, which lived at the bottom of a deep ocean.

Was super excited to see the new #JurassicRebirth featuring none other than D. rex because it could only be the mega giant of the #Ediacaran world Dickinsonia rex! But yet somehow @stevebrusatte.bsky.social had turned it into yet ANOTHER dino 🙄

This is one of my favorite crinoids that I've found. This is Gilbertsocrinus spinigerus from the Devonian Windom Shale of New York. The long arms didn't get preserved, but the spines on the calyx are amazing. They may have discouraged snails from attacking. #FossilFriday

Comparative biology has well known biases for vertebrate and terrestrial ecosystems. Aside from my feelings about that as a specialist in marine invertebrates, I do sometimes wonder how much it creates bigger problems for the field that go largely unrecognized
