If you are a school leader, promoting ideas that teachers shouldn’t be afraid to fail… Just remember that we are evaluated every year. That weighs HEAVILY on some teachers and the risks they are willing to take. Evaluations can be detrimental to us.

Sometimes I think about the dude who interviewed me for his podcast and because of pendulum swings never actually published mine 😂 (I talked about the practice of listening to kids read 1:1 because you not only build relationship by giving them individual time but see what they can do as a whole)

I know better than to put hot takes on threads 😂 But really in Kinder I had my kids put a bathroom pass on their desk and just go. They didn’t need to ask. I knew where they were and no one has been lost So many teachers are so uncomfortable with even the tiniest ways of sharing control.

I’m so frustrated with the SPED services the kids in my class are receiving and it makes me want to go get my SPED endorsement but… So many programs and people are deep in behaviorism and training kids like dogs and…I just can’t pay to sit through 6+ classes of that.

Welp, having a twitter moment on threads when I was just highlighting that different states have different requirements for teachers…and got a whole “well actually” novel about the cost of their teaching program.

Alright first two seasons of The White Lotus down. I’m SO annoyed at the Tanya situation.

I was not expecting to remotely relate to a character on White Lotus. I had a best friend (and roommate) who went after the guy I was dating. (Except, he went for it and they dated for quite awhile…)

I was a volunteer camp counselor for 10 years, for kids affected by HIV/AIDs. The non-profit closed not long after the founder passed away. Yesterday I read that the YMCA camp we rented every year is being sold. And. I’m so, so sad about it. That place is sacred.

It’s definitely a trip when you see someone performing on Fallon and…you went and hung out at their parents’ house to watch the VMAs one year. (My friends were good friends with him)

We got our first staffing for next year and…it’s hard for a program to “be a part of the community” which it displaces some teachers who have been in the community and doing are a great job for ones who can teach in the program.

I was trying to get a local illustrator to visit my class (and pay for it out of pocket) and first they told me I needed to fill out a request form. No problem! Then I got an email that my budget is too low so I needed to fill out a different form. Okay! But..

One of my students told me today that the other second grade teacher is better than me because he…*checks notes* punishes kids by keeping them in at recess. I…uh…okay…

Just as I was patting myself on the back for keeping a kid from completely dysregulating… A different kid dysregulated because they thought I wasn’t being fair by helping kid 1.

Stepson wants to get his ears pierced for his birthday but was a little nervous about the process. We went and got second lobe piercings for me today so he could see how it goes! (Which is SO wild because this is something my parents never would have done for me lol)

I would love to work with a sped teacher who doesn’t make every kid’s plan earning prizes and rewards. Like, I’ve considered going back and getting a sped endorsement just to have some weight behind my rejection.

I get really annoyed that where I teach the non-dual language classes are called “English Only.” I guess the people who built the program (who talk big about having unified communities at the schools that have the program) don’t realize they’re using a label connected to an awful political movement

Grateful for a massage today because…it’s been A WEEK.

At work today we were unpacking the changes to the Danielson framework and I gotta say…I really like the changes…

I worked Monday. Stayed home with sick kid Tuesday. Taught half days on Wednesday and Thursday. Met with 9 families (+ 1 IEP meeting) over those two afternoons. I am so tired.

You can absolutely love a program while also absolutely hate how it was rolled out. And…I continue to hate the rollout.

6 years of marriage (almost 10 together). I’m so glad he taught me all the ways marriage can actually be so wonderful ❤️

I am so tired of “research based” and “evidence based” being wielded like a weapon

I do not enjoy meetings where things like “some of you disagree with this philosophically, but it’s research-based” are said. (I know they know I’m a disagree-er) I won’t ever buy in to dehumanizing practices. A literal analogy about dogs was used. I teach kids not dogs and…*sigh*

The PD I had to go to work at work a week and a half ago had me wondering if I can get the date for the next one and plan to be out of the building that day. The PD I jumped on Zoom at 7am on Saturday for? My brain is all fired up with new ideas and good feelings. Choice is everything.

When I hear a facilitator start with “I got a masters in literacy and learned nothing”…I know what’s coming next because teaching is political.

To sound very optimistic (I am a pessimist)-one of the things I love about teaching is how much change there is. I would get so bored doing the same thing every day, every year. I’m…pretty good with teaching being very different from how it was in 2006. I like the problems of practice and shifting.

Chapter 27 brought me back to something @heymrsbond.com said early in the book about the school teacher with the line “nothing in the world more dangerous than a white school teacher.” That’s one to sit with. #BelovedFebruary

Sometimes I think about how I was invited to be on a podcast, was interviewed and then it didn’t air because my literacy thoughts weren’t swinging with the pendulum 🫠😂
