First post of the New Year: found this ol' snapshot of my Presentation board for a 2nd Swamp Thing animated show from DIC in the 90's. The board stood 4 ft high by 4 ft wide, and did more to grab the networks' attention by the throat than the pitch. That's how we sold shows by the dozens back then.

Christopher Mills passed away on October 13. He was the visionary comic writer & publisher of ATOMIC PULP comics, whom I drew the cover of his updated oldie hero, BLACK OWL. It re-ignited my love of the kind of comics I'd missed. Thanks for showing me that, Christopher. You will be missed. 🕯🙏🏿

Today marks what would've been the 77th Birthday of the late, great Bernie Wrightson, co-creator of DC's Swamp Thing, who also drew his Marvel twin, Man Thing. Del Toro's Frankenstein pays cinematic homage to Bernie's artwork of Shelly's classic creature. His work still lives on. Rest well, Bernie.

Pt. 4--Finally, our background color stylist, illustrator Joel Chang, painted all the Spawn environments like ghostly reflections of Purgatory-- essentially becoming supporting characters themselves. A New York City bordering Hell itself.

Pt. 3--Once the production wrapped & was made ready to be shipped overseas for animation, suddenly everything came to a halt. And the pilot was shut down over a dispute & locked away unfinished to this day. So enjoy what could have been & Happy Halloween.

Pt 2--The art direction for this new animated version of Todd McFarlane's vision was a grittier, crime timely mix between The Wire & Eastern Promises, while still wrapped in haunted, Urban horror Noir. Our voice talent, a variety of genre veterans, stepped right into their roles with glee.

Pt. 1 --Here's the art from the production bible of the abandoned "Spawn the Animation" movie pilot. Developed by original series' directors, Frank Paur & myself, with characters designed by AJ Jothikumar & colored by Kim Bitsui. It has never seen the light of day since designs were finished.

DOCTOR BEDLAM OF APOKOLIPS--One of Darkseid's supervillainous Elite. A pencil commission I just done & inked by classic Marvel/DC inker, @johnbeattyart.
