Redoing the demo level also required a cleaner approach to all my environment sprites. So I'm working them into sprite sheets to make file management easier. Yea, I'm at the boring parts of #gamedev at the moment 😞 #indiegame

Today I'm redoing the FastTravel to work across levels. This has turned out to require a lot of refactoring, mainly because the non-current levels are not initialized, and their data must be found in the level's saveStates from the .json save file. I'm having fun though 😵‍💫 #indiegame #gamedev

One thing that came up during play test was the very placeholdery enemy AI. It looked just one move ahead based on raw distance to a player. Not good when obstacles are in the way. I spent yesterday evening implementing a classic A* approach, and it's already much better. #indiegame #gamedev

I’ve found that having a board such as this is incredibly helpful. It helps me clear my mind by not having to remember stuff, and it gives me something concrete to do whenever I have time to get some work done. Even if it’s just refining a task. #gamedev #indiegame #indiedev

Feeling a bit burned out after a hard sprint to get the demo ready for play testing. I definitely need more feedback than what I got, but I’m concerned that any new play tests on the current build, will just produce duplicate feedback. Hoping that unexpected motivation hits me #indiegame #gamedev

Playtest went really well. Learned a lot. The tweaks from the latest feedback were really good. Still a few things to improve. But overall the testers had fun. Got both some laughs and some cool Aha-moments which is really all you want. Now, back to work! #gamedev #indiegame

I did it. I made the elevator work 🎉 This involved some of the most complex coding I've ever done. Full rewrites of the level manager and saveload manager, but now elevators can correctly load levels and level data. I've been pushing this for months but it's finally done. #indiegame #gamedev

So many of the features I'm implementing at the moment are stuff I've had in my head for like a year. Stuff like the fast travel system, upgrades and map interactions. It feels slightly unreal to see them actually working in the game now. #indiegame #gamedev

Reworking my SaveLoadManager today. The player can now manually save the game at particular spots in the game. This saved game state is used when the player dies. I continually autosave the most recent game state, to load if the player just closes the game and comes back to it. #indiegame #gamedev

Added an area title and door indicators to the map. I'm also experimenting with how to show discovered/undiscovered rooms. Now undiscovered are visible to the player greyed out, but icons, doors etc. will be hidden until the rooms is discovered #indiegame #gamedev #indiedev

Working on the map system today. In the trailer I faked everything in Photoshop, but now I'm working on the actual implementation. It generates the map on level load with a custom mesh from the room sprite shapes. I'm quite amazed it works tbh. Next is map icons, titles and stuff #indiegame #gamedev
