Refactored my SoundManager to play different background music and ambience layers for different game states or different game areas. Instead of having everything hardcoded like before, I now have scriptable AudioProfile objects I transition between. Took a lot of refactoring 😬 #indiegame #gamedev

Animating rain, lightning and fog on my main menu background this morning. Wrote most of the menu music as well and will record during the week. By the end of the week, the main menu will be a very chill place to just hang out. #gamedev #indiegame

It's time I updated the menu background. Over time the asylum has gotten bigger, and the old image no longer seem to fit. I'd also like to make the whole thing a bit more detailed. Since it doubles as the game capsule, I'll invest some time to it. Here's some work in progress #indiegame #gamedev

The main menu is the first chance to show that your game is high quality. So I've worked on transitions. I calculate a random noise texture and use it to dissolve all my images, texts and other UI elements, using a few custom shaders. More work to be done, but what do you think? #indiegame #gamedev

While everyone is starting their yearly health transformation this week, I started mine last spring. Just reached the 30-week streak of at least 2 rides and 2 hours. In the best shape of my life, and very proud of myself! Now back to some #gamedev

I’ve no doubt that experts such as Chris Zukowski and the like would tell me to wrap it up quickly, ship it and move on. I’m putting the finishing touches on the map functionality today. Still need to work on the look, but I’ll have to get to that after New Year’s. The holidays will be spent on music. Need pieces for at least 5 areas and for the menu so I have to get started. #indiegame #gamedev

Some real talk here at year’s end. ~6 months after Mindbreak Steam page launch. I’m at 123 wishlists. 123. All signs tell me to abandon the project. So, what to do? Abandon? Finish demo? I’m having fun and don’t need money, but also don’t want to make a game no one’s gonna play. #indiegame #gamedev

Still work in progress, but I got the basic map functionality working. Switching between level and area view, characters in correct positions, discovered vs. undiscovered etc. Still need to work on the look and feel, the navigation and some animations. But we're getting there. #indiegame #gamedev

I did something really cool. My levels are drawn in the editor using SpriteShapes, and I wrote an editor tool which uses the shape points to automatically draw my in-game maps for each room and area. They will even show un/discovered rooms, character icons and more in real time. #indiegame #gamedev

Working on a slightly more creepy looking attic. I'm aiming for a thick atmosphere with creaking floorboards and ominous music. I think the cobwebs, the holes in the floor and the gently blueish lighting helps a lot to sell the abandoned and creepy look. What do you think? #indiegame #gamedev

Folks. I finished the graphics elements for the ground floor level. You have no idea how much of a struggle this has been. Turns out I just had to continue working even though it didn't look the way I linked. Iterate, iterate, iterate. It's not great yet, but now good enough. #indiegame #gamedev

Just a little animation of the door unlock event. This will happen when you enter a room with a locked door, for which you have the key. After this the door will appear unlocked for the remainder of the game. #indiegame #gamedev

Door locks now display the key tier required to open them: Simple keys, Restricted keys or Master keys. I know it doesn't look like much, but the locks/keys-implementation is actually quite complex and I'm strangely proud of it 😅 #indiegame #gamedev store.steampowered.com/app/3470490/...

I'm in a weird place atm. Last month was nothing but play tests and feedback, feedback, feedback. I felt in tune. Lately, as I'm designing the demo levels, which is still not really playable, I just feel like I'm fumbling in the dark. Hope to get back to the light soon. #gamedev #indiegame

Not too happy with the Rat sprites yet, but I have implemented the new enemy type, which moves on timing instead of on player movement. I added an indicator above it so the player has a chance of timing movements. Still early, but it feels like a good occasional change of pace #indiegame #gamedev

I was just working on some level design for the attic, which will be a short cut to bypass more difficult areas. I was adding some cobwebs when I thought that an attic like this should really have rats. So now I'm adding a new enemy to the game. Drawing now, logic later. #gamedev #indiegame

Keys are in! The pickup and inventory interface is working nicely, and all the save/load logic is done. I decided to treat keys as a type of upgrade, which means reuse of a lot of the existing upgrade systems. Starting the work on the locks now. #indiegame #gamedev s.team/a/3470490

Redoing the demo level also required a cleaner approach to all my environment sprites. So I'm working them into sprite sheets to make file management easier. Yea, I'm at the boring parts of #gamedev at the moment 😞 #indiegame

Today I'm redoing the FastTravel to work across levels. This has turned out to require a lot of refactoring, mainly because the non-current levels are not initialized, and their data must be found in the level's saveStates from the .json save file. I'm having fun though 😵‍💫 #indiegame #gamedev

One thing that came up during play test was the very placeholdery enemy AI. It looked just one move ahead based on raw distance to a player. Not good when obstacles are in the way. I spent yesterday evening implementing a classic A* approach, and it's already much better. #indiegame #gamedev
