Coalition of IL worker centers organizing for dignified, family-supporting jobs
On Sept 12, ICE agents unjustly detained Willian Gimenez in Little Village while he entered a barbershop with his wife. ICE has refused to disclose his location and denied his attorneys access—violating his rights and abusing their power.

I still can’t believe that Prop 6 failed in Nov and Californias didn’t vote to ban “involuntary servitude for incarcerated persons.” Not only is the pay and lack of benefits terrible, but if an inmate rejects this “job offer” it can delay their ability to get parole, creating an impossible “choice.”

Take Action Now via ICIRR: Urge Senator Duckworth to vote to STOP HR 29 aka the Laken Riley Act. HR 29 will likely be voted on in the Senate today, allowing ICE to deny immigrants their constitutional right to due process and facilitating Trump’s mass deportation efforts.

This framing is awful. NYC funds immigration public defenders for people with criminal records! They've recognized that's a group that needs support in the past. And most of the time, the "crimes" are misdemeanors that lead to no jail time or just the payment of a fine.

A recent study from JAMA Health Forum highlights that, with the right resources, workers with disabilities can thrive in equal-paying, fully integrated jobs alongside their peers. Glad to see Illinois is moving in the right direction.
