So many (web) apps popping up right now, but it's all about the process. What does the data tell us? How biased is it? What effect does cleaning and manipulating have? How do we collect it? Model validation, that's so, so important.

Building a recruitment-model has been one of the best things I've done. Not so much for the results, but for the difficulties and challenges in the process. I have been working in football data for 7 years now, but fully grasping what data means and how it's conceived, takes time and effort.
