Decided I'd try to install Forza Horizon 3 on a 7 y/o version of Windows to see if it could bypass the PC version's online matchmaking issues. Ended up spending 8 hours troubleshooting the most Microsoft bullshit possible to get the game running at all. No, it still doesn't work.

I could write a novel on all the things I hope this game will and won't do, but one stands out more than anything else. I swore to myself that I would never play an online-only game ever again. Even if FH is my most played series ever, if 6 has an expiration date like FM8, I'm out. No compromises.

Juiced 2 PC's online career hasn't worked in many years, but today I discovered XLiveLessNess, and it not only allows you to progress through the online career, but can actually facilitate multiplayer. Here we used Radmin VPN, but there's also the potential of hosting a dedicated server.

Found the cause of an issue that's been plaguing me in NFS Carbon. Turns out the Extra Options SplashScreenTimeLimit tweak (which controls how long you can wait at the title screen before the intro movies replay) has a side effect where camera shake in NISs intensifies. Higher value = harder.

Random fun fact: ATV Offroad Fury 2 can actually detect if your PS2's clock battery is dead, and will disable online text chat if it is. This is the only PS2 game I've seen with dead battery detection. Anyone know of another?

So apparently there was promotional DLC for PGR4 feat. a Pop-Tarts flavored TVR Typhon. Has the same issue w/ the PGR3 paid DLC where it doesn't work out of the box, but I was able to get it working w/ some hacky hex-editing. Pretty cool. (And it's making me hungry just looking at it.)

Speed Devils Online Racing is such a fun and innovative game for its time. Never even heard of it before, and now I'm glad I have. What a great way to be introduced to Dreamcast multiplayer! Thanks to Shuouma and flyinghead for making it happen. The Dreamcast community is doing some amazing work.

So I was having issues getting my Xbox 360 to output any audio to my capture card. Racked my brain for months trying to figure out what was wrong. Turns out it was auto-detecting the video interface as... DVI???

I built a portable Xbox. This isn't a PC handheld, it isn't emulation, this is a real motherboard from a real Xbox. It has a 9” 480p display, pure digital video/audio, 100W USB C charge and play, and I'm currently adding WiFi 6 for wireless Xbox Live functionality. Yes, really.

To balance out the negativity, and since I forgot to talk about it - GT Cube. Not a groundbreaking game by any means, but it was a pretty comfortable time from start to finish. Decent handling, *fair AI*, and a good car list with some more obscure selections (particularly the minivans and SUVs).

Just beat TXR1. This is the worst console racing game I've ever played. Never have I seen AI cheat so blatantly and ridiculously. Watching them infinitely grip around sharp corners and strafe their way out of any bad situation sucked almost all the fun out of the game.

Okay, so: - TXR1 has a secret info panel that isn't hinted at in the legend - Different wheels actually affect grip differently from each other - I just so happened to pick a wheel with hard front tires for my horrendously understeering Integra Old games piss me off sometimes. For fuck's sake.
