Heterosexual people to me are the white people of sexual identities. A black heterosexual person can be so passionate about the fight against racism but will meet a racist white person at the corner where homophobia is and join hands with them in the disdain for gay people. Ain’t that some shit.

Location within the country determines how much homophobia you get subjected to in the physical. On social media, it’s widespread. If you are in poorer areas, you can get physically harmed or even murdered. If you are in richer areas, it is so subtle that it gives the illusion of absence.

Despite the protection of our rights, the country remains very much homophobic. This is the legacy of colonialism, apartheid, whiteness. African countries have no history of homophobic attacks and killings prior to the arrival of white people. That is the potency of whiteness & religion.

In my country(South Africa), where LGBTQI+ rights and marriage have been constitutionally protected since the mid 90s, a 16 year old homophobic teenage boy killed a 17 year old gay boy. He gouged out his eyes, smashed him with rocks, stuffed him in a 20L bucket and set him alight.
