Transforming grief into action, there are two things local governments including #Asheville can do right now to stand up to authoritarianism and bolster true public safety:

1. Adopt 4th amendment workplace policy and provide training for city staff. Joining Carrboro and Durham, Asheville could provide training for first responders as well as the parks, sanitation, and water department to know what to do when constitutional rights of residents are being violated.

This includes Flock, FUSUS, and license plate readers. Asheville uses federal funds to implement surveillance systems, and though we don't proactively share data with the federal government, we are not permitted to withhold it, and cannot prove that the companies do not turn over data on our behalf.

Stopping in Asheville on our 1st leg of a quick road trip. Lunch at Little Pigs #BBQ, opened in 1962 and I believe the city’s oldest independent restaurant. I spent yesterday at The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. It’s the largest privately owned home in the US.

The grounds are beautiful. They were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. He also designed Central Park in NYC. Asheville still has damage from #Helene. There are trees down and buildings still being restored.

Greg Biffle was an absolute UNIT of a human being when it came to giving back. Whether it was raising money for the local food bank in Asheville or flying hurricane relief victims in Jamaica. Greg was was known for going above and beyond to help people. He was a good human and embodied kindness.

Greg was instrumental in the aid to hurricane victims in Asheville, NC area. He piloted his own helicopter on countless rescue and aid missions. A really good person. RIP. 💔
