I'm so tired of this puritanical bullshit. Sex is healthy, sex fantasies are healthy, fiction is healthy. I wish people would stop conflating BDSM and fiction with assault. People have fantasies about power. That's normal! Exploring feeling via stories is what humans do!

Addendum: Also, what about stories where highlighting the abusive aspect of an interaction *is the point*? Not every depiction of nudity or sex is something you're meant to get off to. Does that content and those stories just no longer have a place on this site?

You can accuse people of slippery slope fallacy or being needlessly pedantic, but these are questions that don't have clear answers. The reality is that there isn't actually a way to enforce a rule like that without creating an incredibly wide grey area that has a lot of people concerned.

But, even for the not tame kinks, what is the justification for banning it other than people just not liking it? Are you going to go with the violence in video games argument? That fictional depictions of violence or immorality cause their viewers to become violent and immoral?

And that's even before getting into the categories of entire kinks getting banned, many of which people view as very tame. Could exhibitionism come under fire because the people around them didn't consent to seeing it? Are wardrobe malfunctions now banned because the character doesn't consent?

If you post a drawing of a character that's naked, absent any other context, what indicates consent? What if you're voyeuristically watching them? Could the rule change mean literally any nsfw image is at risk? could art be removed and accounts banned arbitrarily at the whims of a rogue moderator?

Without dialogue, how can you distinguish between a character who's into bondage and one who's tied up against their will? Who gets to decide the line between a depiction of rough sex vs rape?

But also, when it comes to consent specifically, in the context of static images and illustrations what is and is not consensual is often going to be up to the whims and discretion of the person doing the moderating. This creates a precarious situation for anyone posting nsfw content.

You might see several artists mad about the bluesky policy update banning non-con, even artists who do not make that kind of material, and wonder why it's such a problem. If that's you, here is a quick breakdown: 🧵
