#OnThisDay 1902 Cambrian Railways horse shunter T Roberts was injured at #Oswestry, #Shropshire, #England. Shunting wagons in the goods yard, Roberts' horse kicked him on the right thigh. He was off work for 5 days. His regular weekly wage was £1 - c.£139 today. #Railway200

I waited on Whitcliffe Common for the sun to come up over Ludlow and I managed to capture a hint of sunlight on the castle as it emerged from the early-morning mist. And yes - I purposely lined up the castle chimney in the centre of the shot with the masts on Brown Clee in the distance. #Shropshire

My 2x great-grandmother Sarah Stark (née Surridge) was born #OTD in 1828 in Broadclyst, Devon. She died in 1887. I have no photos of her but inherited this photo of her grave in Poltimore from my great-aunt. I visited myself in 1988 and the gravestone had deteriorated greatly by then 😔 #genealogy

My grandma and I would wander old graveyards when I was little. She showed me how a single dash could hold a whole life. I've always felt at ease with the dead. My love of history began here, among the worn headstones. I now visit her grave. That little dash (1930–2024) contains so many memories.
