My beautiful mum. I think this might have been her first teaching job but there’s no-one left to ask so I can only guess. I guess everything. I try not to make her up, to make her a story but I never knew her old and she never knew me as an adult. Sheila, who died on this day 35 years ago.

We’re approaching the 35 year anniversary of my mum dying and every year at this time I’m reminded just by the smell of the November air and the way the low winter sun setting casts a particular light that this is The Time and I think I’m over it and realise I’m very not.
