I’ve started (again) taking little slim paperbacks (poetry is good) that fit in my jeans pocket to read while waiting for friends because they are always late & there’s something just awful about waiting in pubs looking at my phone - but now…

Watched Michael Haneke’s The Seventh Continent this morning at 5am (long, dull story). Crikey. Thought I’d already watched it - had the box set for years - but, unless my traumatised mind has repressed it, it turns out I haven’t. By all accounts Haneke is actually a bit of a laugh.

Was at this last week &, even though I was utterly exhausted after the Wrong Speed three-dayer, they were utterly mesmerising.

Watched Raw (2016) again very early this morning (don’t ask) & it was even better than I’d remembered. Haven’t seen Alpha (2025) yet, though not hearing great things. Titane (2021) was powerful but I think this one is the true masterpiece.

Like this idea & interesting to see Carter as an exemplar; a kind of late 80s unselfconscious ‘indie’ bleed-through before the wave of much more self-conscious ‘alternative’ bands…

Reading Fumiko Enchi’s Masks now. The atmosphere is somehow strangely quotidian, and also very dreamlike. Hard to describe.

For me it was around 13-15 that music became something fundamental, rather than a garnish for activities. I think by 15 I liked all the things I still like & everything I’ve loved after that point was developing on that (very loose) theme.

Excited for this at the weekend. Amazing line up as usual.

Genuinely think about this film more often than I want to. Might have to watch it again as part of some exorcism. Surprised not more fuss was made about it.
