Only managed half of this last night. Not because I didn’t like it but because it was late & ended up really creeping me out. Definitely one of Nurse With Wounds creepiest records. Sounds (even more than Murderous Passions) like bad things happening.

Took a chance on this for basically 20p in the charity shop and really liking it. I guess you’d say it’s New Weird America but it feels like it could easily have been released on Fonal circa 2002

Never loved the drums on this but it’s still a sort of ‘you probably had to be there’ classic from The Shamen

Lost two of these Artistique et Sentimental t-shirts (including this Bauhaus one) hitch-hiking in the back of a converted dayglo black cab in early 1990s… seems they were quite rare & now quite collectible.

Now playing Buried Dreams by Clock DVA. Had & didn’t play that much the previous records but this one had a Duchamp sleeve & hit very differently. Sexy, in a none more Gothic way.

In the hyperlocal twilight state of being 15/16 years old, Automatic Dlamini were definitely in my Top 10 favourite bands & this was a great, unique & strange pop album which reminded me vaguely of what The The were doing. Plus, junk-metal percussion!

In my quest to find a time to listen to a whole actual record, I played this last night. The best Throbbing Gristle record imo, if only because I) we get all the bits of TG in one place & 2) I have some many happy / sad / poignant associations with these tracks

Played this for the first time in ages. Don’t feel these goofy loons ever really got their dues as innovators.

This evenings record is Mutant Disco. Bought this on a whim in Notting Hill sometime late 80s & it’s not been far from the turntable since. The Kid Creole track is my favourite track that mentions squirrels (apart from maybe Phorward by The Shamen)

Now playing the first Nurse With Wound record I bought - Automating Volume 2 bought from some record shop under a haberdashery in Clifton, Bristol years ago. A compilation but feels very much like an album.

Found out today that Clare H. Torry, the singer on Pink Floyd’s The Great Gig in the Sky was also the singer of the version of Love Is Like a Buttefly they used as the theme for sitcom Butterflies.

Well, I’ve probably overplayed it over the past 35 years or so but Big Black’s Kerosene still makes cooking coq au vin more exciting.

Thought Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey was easily the best version I’d read & now her version of The Iliad is the audiobook on my commute - and it’s probably even better. Stirring stuff.
