Rutile is also an awesome geochronometer because it can record both temperature and time. With high Pb closure temperatures and temperature sensitivity to Zr, rutile helps decode metamorphic thermal histories that other minerals miss. 🧪⚒️⌛

Geology always wins... ⚒️🧪

As a child I excitingly heard this on the news (astronomy was my huge interest at the time 🧪🌙⚒️). But I then baffled my poor mother by immediately plummeting into tearful despair that "they would discover all the planets before I grew up to find my own". Happy to be proven wrong! 😁

Another Red Wing is in the books! My geology clubbers and I ran two outreach events at this 3 day Roots music festival and spread understanding about Virginia geology! ⚒️

And now the Winter #Solstice from the same location ⚒️🧪🌏 A noticeable lack of celebrants due to an effective demonstration of seasonal change with a brisk minus 6°C air temperature... 🥶

And because coincidences... today I saw some archived ⚒️🧪rock samples from Antarctica collected from a glacial moraine in 1957. The 🤯 thing is that these cobbles are *rounded* - they were made by water flowing in a river. They whisper of a time when Antarctica was a very different place.

An interesting approach in applying ⚒️🧪 earth science to support the economics of energy transition.
