I worked with Nick at my first game dev job at EA in the mid-2000s. He was such a great guy, and he went out of his way to help me learn the ropes, even though I wasn't even on his team! He had such a great attitude, and really seemed to delight in working with other people to make games.

I'm playing the Xbox PC edition of Octopath Traveler II on my ROG Ally right now and every building looks like Strausburg. Also I know I'm LTTP but it's 🔥. Had to drag myself away from pixelated half timbered buildings to go look at real ones this morning.

This is the exact kind of place you go inside and in the first room there's a save point and like 3 maximum health / spell point packs and then someone asks you if you're ready to go upstairs or if there's more you need to do in town first. (Also Strausburg is very beautiful!)

This is a berry that is edible and common in Europe that they don't have in America. Also I was going in a secret entrance at gamescom and a guard asked me if I was at kolnmesse for the aircraft equipment conference or the game show. I'm like "ma'am I'm wearing a polygon skull t-shirt..."

Cologne has a great bike rental place, the aptly named Radstation Köln, and a bike is by far the fastest way to get around the city. 20€ a day and you can get to most places you need to during gamescom before an Uber can get to you.

My gamescom challenge this year is to not take any photos of the Dom.

I don't really collect old games anymore (I have enough!) but sometimes... I stopped to ask about Easy Working: The Filer (I tested a version as a tyke) and $10 later I had everything in the guy's sell box. Pretty awesome haul that's finally going on the shelf.

That's a wrap on Bit Summit for me! From seeing so many sweet new games to amazing conversations that ranged from games to real ghost stories it was a blast from start to finish. Can't wait to come back to Kyoto!

Backstage at Bit Summit before the industry welcome mixer. I've only seen one of those giant barrels of sake in movies and games so it's kind of exciting to see irl. So many great conversations and indie games here, this is the biggest bit summit ever - vibe was amazing on the business day!

I'm very excited for Bit Summit today, my first time back since 2018. I've heard it's grown a ton. Already had some incredible conversations (and saw some amazing games) with old and new friends at pre-events.

Playing Altered Beast in the arcade was one of the most amazing experiences. We'd drive an hour to go play it every weekend for months when I was 16. Later I bought a cabinet and it was in my tiny SF apartment kitchen for years.
