This was a fantastic interview both ways. @reckless.bsky.social did a great job pressing on the confusing aspects of the joint venture with VW and what customers want from phone projection, but I thought Wassym did a great job of explaining the rationale and benefits of Rivian's approach.

This feels about right to me. Pricey, but many like me will go for it and there will also likely be a lot of cross-shopping. I don't see Rivian offering many incentives in 2026 as demand should be high, but in 2027 and when the standard version comes out, expect aggressive incentives.

We saw several of these (actually the kids were the best at spotting them) out testing in SFO in April and it looks like they'll finally be serving customers. I like the additional space they offer for families as we couldn't all fit in a single iPace Waymo. Still not sold on the experience though.

The return of the greatest Rivian interior color option is upon us. Interesting limits to the availability though. I wonder why they are limiting it this way.

I largely agree with this list. The things that would get me to consider an upgrade from a Gen1 R1S to the next-gen would be: faster charging and fewer thermal de-rates (with a beefier curve), and little more range / efficiency. I don't need autonomy except for lane centering on all roads.

I don't know that their ultimate success depends on Europe, but it will be fascinating to see if Rivian can become a global manufacturer, not just a niche US one. I think R2 will pave the path with a platform for bigger (likely smaller-size) things world-wide in the future

I'd love to see Ferrari lead the way with EVs in a way like they lead supercars but I think there is just a fundamental incompatibility with their ethos and actually moving EVs forward. They should have focused on performance and EV tech, but fell flat on these and created a polarizing design
