Gunhed (1989) We just don't see movies do "real robot" style mecha like this very often. Despite being light on substance, it knocks it out of the park immensely hard with it's visual identity. One that was so striking for it's time, that it's a clear point of influence for many iconic franchises.

Demo was fantastic, cannot wait for the full release. As a game, extremely addicting and left me wanting more. As an experience, rides a fine line between goofy, compelling, and creepy. Perfectly evocative of the era it's replicating.

"KINKI (2025)" - Koji Shiraishi Properly chilling blend of supernatural investigation and found footage. Loved the use of differing formats and time periods for each found footage piece. Very unnerving stuff in here. An incredible companion piece for Shiraishi's other standout work, Noroi.

Returned from visiting relatives to a pretty exciting haul. Particularly stoked about the VHS tape containing Alan Wake's Night Springs episode segments.

My woodbook edition of Hundreds of Beavers is probably my favorite release in my physical media collection. A 5/5 movie with a uniquely on brand special edition. The slipcover is made of actual wood, it rules.

"Routine" is incredible. A rare horror game that truly unnerved me. With an environment so meticulously framed and lit that every moment of this experience leaves an impression. A honed aesthetic that makes expert use of tactile analog tech and liminality both in service of gameplay and identity.

"The Muppets" is to film and television as "Homestar Runner" is to the internet.

Chainsaw Man is -so- goddamn good.

Caught up on "Welcome to Derry", maybe it's because I was pretty pessimistic from reviews I read, but I ended up enjoying what's out so far. It's pretty rough at times (cemetery scene in EP3 was awful) and I wish it wasn't so CG heavy, but I generally vibe with what it's doing.

I used to -love- tech, and now I'm just so disillusioned by it. At the risk of coming across as nostalgic, I miss when tech was "crude". When the barrier to entry was higher, only the most weird, passionate, and talented people seemed to be tinkering with it. Compromise brewed distinct identities.

The new chapter of Chainsaw Man (221) shows just how good the series is at weaving Looney Tunes ass comedy into its genuinely poignant political commentary. The design of a certain weapon in this chapter is sending me. Incredible stuff.

Waiting for car maintenance to be done, but picked up Kirby Air Riders beforehand. So it's Kirby time, baby.

Only partially through this video, but it's great so far and I want to use it as a jumping off point to preach the brilliance of Remedy's connected universe. Alan Wake 2 is firmly one of my favorite games. It wears it's influences so confidently on it's sleeve, without smothering it's own identity.

I've always been a huge fan of the 4k UHD format, but when I watch black and white movies in 4k (currently, Seven Samurai) it feels like these in particular are what the format was made for. The contrast created with light and shadow in these films, with the addition of HDR, always blows me away.

My movie club made me watch "Master of Disguise" this week. I sent them this as my review.

Back on the general #2025watches thread. "Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)" Wanted to check this out before for Badlands and was very surprised at just how incredibly cool this was. Brisk, engaging stories in three different time periods dealing with various Predator threats.

Celebrating my birthday a bit late since my wife was busy the day of, and she got me a Godzilla cake! My boi is looking like the Hannah Barbara version which cracks me up.

I ordered it a bit too late for Halloween, but I'm still stoked to have just received my copy of "Trick or Treat with Reed Richmond" from @chrislamartina.bsky.social . Might hold off and save this one for next year, but I adore WNUF and Halloween Mega Tape so I'm excited to check it out when I do.
