Highlight of this morning's ride was a broken down sweeping machine on the pedestrian overpass by Rockyview hospital. Was a tight squeeze getting the bike past it. Road down to Sandy Beach was a bit sketchy, and there were tracks indicating a rider went down in the park.

Pathway construction update - paving was underway on the reconstructed Sandy Beach hill pathway on Saturday. Looked like they were close to finishing. Current re-opening date is Nov 25 and that looks likely.

Today's WTF moment - had a driver pass me while I was in the driving lane avoiding the door zone of a car that just parked. In a playground zone. In front of an elementary school. In the oncoming lane. Nearly running over the mid-road caution sign. Cutting off a vehicle coming towards us.

I finally had to replace one of the LED bulbs I installed when we bought the house. Over 13 years ago. LED bulbs were quite new, and I think these were close to $50 a piece back then. But 13+ years is amazing, look at that heat sink. The new ones are cheaper but not nearly so well engineered.

My ebike has been in the shop for a bit for some warranty repairs so I've been riding my old touring bike to work. I don't hate it, it's actually getting kinda fun.

Kinda disappointing to open up a Belgian gueuze as a thanksgiving treat and have the aroma being overwhelming cardboard. Sadly tossed it, first time we've ever had a bad bottle from this brewery.

Life made riding the last few weeks a bit challenging, but holy smokes has this week been amazing. Just fantastic conditions and still so many riders out and about.

Wanna hear something weird? There are three of us that ride our bikes to work more often than not. Last month, two of us had our only crash of the year on the same day. 1/2

With the threat of hail last night, I managed to fit two cars in the garage with the seven bikes. Don't judge, I've donated or sold six bikes in the past couple years and only gained two. π

Didn't get a photo, but I saw a sad, mangy coyote while I was riding past Stanley Park this morning. I'm thinking it might be the same one that has been hanging around Meadowlark Park. Poor dude looked pretty freaked out.

Interesting interaction at the entrance to Sandy Beach Park at 50th Ave SW this morning. They had a flag person stopping bikes and telling riders that there was extensive construction on the route and their recommendation was to take one of the detours.

103 cyclists suffered major injuries in crashes with cars in the last year on record in Alberta. 5 died. In 73 of those collisions, the driver made an "improper action" vs. 30 who were "driving properly." π:

Sometimes the city makes some odd choices for temporary signage. This is at the bottom of a hill in the middle of a narrow pathway entrance. Someone must have complained because now it is in the middle of the pathway halfway up the hill.

Looking like a bit of a crappy, rainy May long weekend. On the upside, we are coming off a week of rehabbing three flower beds, building three more, and top dressing and reseeding the lawn. I couldn't have timed the rain better.
