The last two days have been some of the hardest and most emotionally draining I’ve had in over a decade. A part of me I thought I’d moved past in therapy was just a dam I’d built and it broke on Friday. I’m probably going to post about it here later, but send cats? And memes? And bad jokes?

I have always appreciated that my car is a hybrid, but now that I am paying nearly 2.5x the cost of gas I was last year or even 6 mos ago I’m even more grateful. I took the back roads to visit my friend in Lincoln, a 110 mile round trip but I only used 45 miles of gas and added 20 total minutes.

I have an urgent and pressing question: for my cat friends who are fluent in ca’at, when you DM another cat do you both still speak in ca’at? Or do you revert to human English?

When I moved out after divorce #2, Uzi would barely hang out with me and if she did, if I moved so much as a millimeter, she sprinted off. Tonight, 3 years later, I practically had to shake her out of the blanket to get her off my lap so I could go coach volleyball. Very little makes me prouder.

I’m a pretty good cook, but ADHD is hard to overcome. As my girls have gotten older, I’ve been able to outsource more to help with the added benefit of teaching them useful skills. Tonight, Lily got to shred about two cups of cheese. In exchange? Homemade macaroni with pulled pork!

I’ve never been great with hair but I like coloring mine so I’ve always gone to a salon. Unfortunately, I’ve been priced out. I decided to take on coloring mine at home and told my daughters we could do theirs too. Anyway, I’m pretty proud of my work!

Maybe it’s just me, but if I were an elementary school principal in charge of reading the names of all the kids in the 6th grade class for their graduation ceremony, I would consider practicing first.

I brought a plastic knife home from Sam’s to cut my pizza. Lynn had other plans, however, and it’s now her new favorite toy.

I was minding my business getting a mani pedi when the man in the pedicure chair behind me took a call wherein he explained that the patient whose scans he was looking at had a major clot in his carotid artery and I know that I want to be an OBGYN when I grow up, but maybe radiology is better.

There is a man next to me at the Mexican restaurant I frequent wearing a grunt style shirt and it’s very clear they’re all republicans. God help me cause I’m about to tell them to find a different fucking restaurant.

I wore my “I might be wrong but I doubt it” shirt today while I went into the CFO and acting president’s office to tell him I want a very specific and bigger role in my company’s upcoming org changes. I did not wear this shirt on purpose.

Lynn laid on my pillow overnight with her paw on my forehead and her head pressed against my cheek while she was loudly purring. Being so loved by a cat hits different.

I just stole Rappy’s eye goop and he didn’t even get up. He just snuggled back down for scritches. I feel like I just won being a cat mom.

No one ever calls me at work except today when I’m working at the library while my daughter is at middle school round up and I opened my computer upon arrival to 4 phone call requests.

This happened yesterday. I told my boss arson was the pragmatic solution and he laughed at me. LAUGHED.😡

The reason it’s not insane to talk about consent like this is bc the ex-husband who chased our cat around until he caught her and forced her to snuggle with him until he was done is the same man who walked into the spare room where I was sleeping and had sex with me while I was too scared to say no.

Demanding consent for physical contact is a sign of an abusive relationship, apparently. All men. Always, until proven otherwise.

A clue in the NYT mini crossword today was “notoriously antisocial pets” and the answer was cats and now I’m annoyed AF. Cats aren’t antisocial. Lynn wakes me up at 2-3 am EVERY NIGHT so I can watch her eat because she needs to include me. All 3 use me as their pillow. Cats just demand consent.

A big fuck you to everyone who voted for Trump. I took today off work for my mental health and really wanted to visit my dad. He is buried in his hometown two hours away. I couldn’t justify the expense of the gas it would take to get there. I didn’t vote for this and I didn’t deserve it.

If you were horrified watching elected leaders run & scramble because of gun violence, just imagine how my daughter Jaime felt in school running from an active shooter before she was killed. Now, become a part of the solution & only vote for people determined to address gun violence in America.

Teach your kids their rights! Both of my girls were pissed when I picked them up from school today because my younger daughter was forced to stand during the pledge of allegiance. I think she was just tired and felt like sitting, but she knew she had the right to sit. Had a couple fun phone calls.
