Yesterday, Impact for Equity’s Joi Imobhio and Amy Thompson testified at the City Council of Chicago’s meeting of the Committee on Pedestrian and Traffic Safety. Their testimony explained how pretextual traffic stops, far from improving crime outcomes, in fact undermine public safety.

🧵From last night's CCPSA meeting, IFE Staff Counsel Amy Thompson's public comment: "It’s clear that CPD’s proposed policy falls far short of what is needed to make meaningful change in CPD’s traffic stops practice. We know what the problem is."

To say the least, this policy falls short of IFE's policy recommendations and is unlikely to eliminate pretextual stop practices. More to come, but we will continue shining a light on these wasteful practices and the disproportionate harm done to Black and Latine communities in Chicago.
