A new route for determining the structure and function of proteins. Researchers at IMDEA Nano and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste use engineered protein scaffolds to create ordered arrays aiming at enhancing the signal at the detector.

Louis Eugene Brus, an American physical chemist whose work on quantum dots helped unlock a new era of nanoscience, died on Jan. 11, 2026, at the age of 82. He was a professor of chemistry at Columbia University and a Nobel laureate.
