I don't think the government has any idea how much of a political liability this is. When people twig what the Planning and Infrastructure Bill means - that our precious wild places will have no meaningful protection against whatever a corporation wants to do - it'll be felt as a monstrous betrayal.

They intend to rip up our environmental protections on the basis of a story for which, the government now admits, there is no evidence. Where did the story come from? Starmer has told us: "my conversations with leading CEOs". sucker (noun): someone who believes what corporate lobbyists tell him.
