“gluggaveður” (GLUGG-ah-ve-thur) is an Icelandic word that translates as "window weather" and refers to conditions that are pleasant to look at from inside but are less pleasant to be outside for.

From my American perspective, it's noticeably different to be in a mall buzzing with activity; few empty storefronts; and loads of kids/teenagers welcome and hanging out in groups.

Today's walk in Iceland I took
@onefootiniceland.bsky.social
up my backyard mountain to see all the impressive views of other mountains. It's one of my favorite places and I'm glad I got to share it with her.

Today's walk in Iceland If you look for it, evidence of an old farmstead can still be seen in the valley.

Today's walk in Iceland I lay down on the grass next to a rushing river, listened to the gurgling water and the birds, and watched the clouds overhead.

Today's walk in Iceland Clear and sunny but sooo very windy. I passed a group of (crazy 🙂) runners going up the mountain to my right (not in this photo), through the remaining snow and ice and, I'm assuming, trying not to get blown off.

Oh FFS, stop saying he chickened out. He was threatening massive harm, not a freaking defamation lawsuit. Be glad he's not following through on those threats (for now).

Please stop saying TACO. We’re talking about an ungodly number of people who could die or maimed. It’s not time for cutesy little internet slang. We have to get away from this bizarre desensitization.

In the last 24 hours on my street in Iceland we've had both gale force winds & calm; heavy snow & light rain; blowing sleet & brilliant sunshine; overcast gloom & crashing thunder and lightning. Waves of this, followed by waves of that and then back again. Temperamental ass country. 😍🙂

It's Sprengidagur, Iceland's Fat Tuesday-like day of eating to excess. I got Kallabakari's version of the ham/bean soup in Akranes. Read more about the tradition here:

First the river under Skógafoss moved to the wrong place. Now there's no beach at Reynisfjara. Iceland keeps reminding us that it is very young, geologically, and not that settled.
