Today on the @istoriatravel.bsky.social Gallipoli tour was all about terrain. Deep gulleys, imposing cliffs & plenty of inescapable high ground made moving across the peninsula punishing. Here’s Gully Beach - not a landing spot but pivotal. The wreck is the lighter that Gen. Maude was supposed to escape the peninsula on. Yesterday afternoon we finished up at S Beach and the Turkish memorial for the #Gallipoli campaign. The scale is the same as something like Thiepval 🇹🇷 @istoriatravel.bsky.social @seaspitfires.com @peterhart.bsky.social @danielmcandrew.bsky.social

After the guns, we paid our respects to all of the Frenchmen who fell during the #Gallipoli campaign. There are 12,000 in the ossuaries alone.🇫🇷 @peterhart.bsky.social @istoriatravel.bsky.social @seaspitfires.com @danielmcandrew.bsky.social
