CLIPPER #2 FORECAST ADJUSTMENT: Due to a southerly shift in the storm's track, the second clipper system pushing through the Northland will bring less snowfall than what I was forecasting 24 hours earlier. Still expecting some difficult driving conditions the rest of today south of Highway 2.

8 P.M. RADAR UPDATE: The first clipper system of the week is passing through the western half of the Northland. It will continue east over the next several hours. Total snowfall is still on forecast, with highest amounts north of Highway 2.

One thing I learned quickly as a young shift forecaster years ago was forecasting low temperatures was usually much harder than forecasting highs. Case in point this AM's arctic air in the upper Midwest. Note the coldest air pooling in river valleys, urban heat islands with big differences.

This arrival of subzero air is right on schedule climatologically - we typically see the first zero or colder reading this time of year. (Long term average for the current airport location is ~Nov 30).

As forecasted, the South Shore and Upper Peninsula regions have seen the most snowfall, with more snow falling the rest of today and tonight. Winds have been strong, with gusts of 40+ last night and Wednesday morning. They will slowly calm through Thursday.

Happy Wednesday morning from the Northland! Last night saw heavy snowfall and strong winds from our first winter storm of the season. The winds persist, but the snow is concentrating on the eastern half of the region.

8 P.M. RADAR UPDATE: The snow has arrived across the Northland, and it is coming down heavy for many in the region. Winds are also picking up across the area. That will lead to a double whammy for road conditions the rest of tonight.
