Like I'm not a big fan of this job I have, really. We had 5 call offs. I showed up early to try to make up for it, but managements first message to me was "why are you in the same department as your colleague? We have 100+ orders" No "how was the holidays?" Or anything. Just "hey get to work".

My credit score is starting to take a hit because I dont make enough, despite busting my ass and working all the time.

The worst thing about america is everyone expects you to be working all the time Even when you're not at work, you're supposed to be doing things in service of preparing for your next shift at work. It's all work.

I'm tired of having to work even when I'm not at work. If I'm not working I have to doordash. If I'm not doing that, my IT colleagues expect me to be upskilling for a career track I'm systematically rejected for, but within this same market state, they are safe in.

The scheduling manager reduced my hours after Christmas and still tried to call me in two hours early, a half hour before she wanted me in. Am I like the Minuteman of best buy?

I really feel like pandemic era services like having customers park in the lot and employees bring out their purchases should've gone away. If office workers are made to return to physical offices, customers of retail establishments can go in to pick up their items.

I think i did manage to turn around someone's day this morning tho, hey. Little stuff like that is worth it. They sounded irritated when I checked them in, but I briefed them on how slammed we are, and how I'm there for em. That turned em around. They came in to tell management "he's great"

I'm really tired of having to scramble and scrounge for money and employment though. This really is the job market of my absolute worst nightmares.

It's still weird to me that a place that will effectively be part time employment got mad at me for saying I'm going to try and fill that time with another job....you are part time and I am in the interest of taking care of myself and my bills. I cannot do that once you put me on part time hours.

If I get a training offer for this job will anybody be willing to spot me enough money for me to continue paying my rent? I shouldn't count the chickens before they hatch but I want to be prepared now rather than scrambling.

It's weird hearing everyone at work call out daily store sale quotas knowing how little we all get paid.

Its weird to me how employers will get mad when an employee needs two jobs to get by. ...you realize you can pay more to get someone's time exclusively to yourself correct? I imagine most people that need two jobs would rather just work one if it was sufficient.

Job market is so fucked that you can't even get hired at a fast food joint flipping burgers anymore. I don't think employers want people to work.

I dunno that I'd be so distressed lately if lower wage jobs simply payed enough to live off of. But they don't.

I'm not going to give up but there's always going to be a possibility that I never do bounce back from this moment in time. This will be my new normal.

I have to be willing to accept there's a chance I might never work in IT again. The market got too saturated in the last decade and AI means they don't need as many people anymore. Right now I'm just stuck in a job market that is not only fucked there, but everywhere else. I might never recover.

I wish I had healthcare. I want so badly to see a psychiatrist. But that's not an option available to me.

Several colleagues keep saying the market will get worse next year for IT. I dunno if any of my work experience in IT can transfer to any other jobs I can realistically expect to have access to going forward for the immediate future.

Going back to school is definitely on my plans now but I'm just worried the requirements will be raised again. Schools might just make up some new level beyond a Masters degree that employers will require from here on out for all I know. I'm just worried I'll be trapped in an unwinnable cycle.

Like a decade ago I could make 40-60k with just a degree from a community college. Now companies want a Bachelor's degree (required) and Masters (preferred) for a lot of positions. Like....so many people went in to IT when I went to college that they just bumped up the requirements beyond reality.

Had a company like 4-5 months ago claim they were hiring a QA lead to build the practice from the ground up- they'd been in business for 5 years and had exactly zero QA at all. Right now there's exactly zero positions open for QA. How do you plan to build a practice with one person?

It's really weird to me how companies will reject people for using AI.....in a job market that increasingly wants employees to use AI. I may hate AI but the contradictions are wild.
