I think its fine to switch to a back 5 vs. certain opponents. Teams near the top of the league in poss. & that play a positional style where their front 5 occupy all 5 attacking lanes. Its against inferior teams where this becomes frustrating if it deters our ability control the game WITH the ball.

Still quite a bit of frustration from some players with Callender’s decision making with his feet. People were talking about his ability to play with his feet being a step up from Dayne, but that’s still yet to be seen… #MNUFC

For the past few years, we’ve obviously struggled (or not even tried) to build up from goal kicks. Here’s an example where a common 3rd man combination was an option. Neither DSC/Duggan seemed interested in it, Trapp does move into a good spot. Pereyra also appears frustrated with the decision.

We’re seeing more & more great sequences in possession just two games in, but we still have that “Ramsay ball” mentality of going for the killer pass far sooner than necessary imo. 🟥 Markanich playing a ball he completes 1 out of 50 🟩 A slip pass into Pereyra that creates a 3v2 #MNUFC

"Longer stretches of possession... that possession amounting to chances." Even after one game, the difference between Ramsay & Knowles is noticeable. Under Ramsay, we might’ve had 3–4 sustained possessions in the opponent’s half; under Knowles, we had numerous. (1/2 🧵)

Trapp & Valentin both come across as happy with the new style under Knowles, and it seems the rest of the players are much happier as well — not surprised at all. #MNUFC

Knowles has been talking about playing w/ increased risk, central combinations & rotations. Most common rotations seems to be with our 6s and 10s. Central combinations = increased risk. And that risk is (central) counter-attacks against us. Maintaining that 3-2 base seems to be key for Cam.

A small Triantis observation… It’s something I noticed when he arrived, & it’s popped up a few times already in preseason. There have been a few moments where he’s lost possession in dangerous areas — particularly on the turn — which may come down to poor scanning... #MNUFC
