Preseason is over. Gabriel Vilardi is shootout magic, but Tanner Pearson's game winner was the biggest trick. Let's do this for real on Thursday. Next up: Final cuts.

Parker Ford is either earning himself an NHL job or one of the warmest, fuzziest demotions in recent Jets memory. More good stuff from Cole Koepke, too.

got a couple of minutes with Scott Arniel last night. Arniel on Toews: "He just tweaked something here. We'll see when we get back. Day off (Wednesday), Thursday we'll get a look at him and find out what it is." Nothing really serious? "Yeah, I don't know really yet."

Scott Arniel says that Dylan Samberg will receive further evaluation tomorrow. He called Samberg's injury after his collision with Lomberg a "freak accident." Does sound like Arniel has some concern: "We'll see how this goes with Sammy. That's part of what we've talked about with our depth."

I'm sold on Morgan Barron, and almost all of the way there on Cole Koepke. Who's best on the fourth line with them until Adam Lowry comes back? Tanner Pearson is unique but I might have more time for Gustafsson, Anderson-Dolan, etc., at least based on what we've seen at camp.

When Ville Heinola was drafted, he couldn't have imagined how quickly Winnipeg's defence would be torn apart. A series of UFA departures, injuries, and a sudden retirement conspired to gift him an NHL job at just 18 years old. Six years later, he's still trying to win it back.

Jets coach Dean Chynoweth was talking about players finding roles on the PK. Talked about Tanner Pearson and Cole Koepke as potential options this year. Jonathan Toews will kill penalties too. Seems to convey Pearson and Koepke are good bets to make the 4th line, as expected

Jonathan Toews admitted that it was special to play another NHL game after so long away. Still, if you were expecting anything less than a serious self-critique, you'll be disappointed: "Some good, some not so good. It is what it is," Toews started, when asked for his review.
