The more the media pursue the Government for yet another mishap within a public organisation, the more I realise the total shitshow inherited by Labour was worse than we could possibly have known - because the media didn't do anything like their job for at least 9 years.

It's such a pity the Lib Dems didn't become the official opposition. They'd be a million times better than the adolescent tantrum throwers who are there at the moment, pretending the last 14 years didn't happen. Democracy needs an intelligent opposition to work well.

I don't know what will be in the budget, but I already know what the media reaction will be.

Almost all of these Labour 'scandals' turn out to be (a) something done/not done by the Tories, (b) factually incorrect, (c) within all the rules but what about the optics, (d) such a minor error that nobody had heard of the rule that was breached before it happened, or (e) someone else's fault.

Just a reminder that in 2014 UKIP 'wins European elections with ease to set off political earthquake' (Guardian 26/5) with more MEPs than either Labour or Tories. Media superlatives, Farage predicted a hung UK parliament. Yet in 2015, UKIP got 1 MP, Tories a majority. Nothing is inevitable.

On the BBC news earlier today, I actually heard the newsreader suggesting that Boris Johnson would be a better person to send to Washington than our actual Prime Minister ('just asking the question' of his interlocutor of course!). Never underestimate the role of the media in the advent of fascism.

I think the phrase 'ethnic cleansing' needs to be binned. There is nothing cleansing about it, it's foul and is the language of the perpetrators. We need a new phrase that incorporates its repugnance, not one that makes it sound like Persil and obliterates the fact that it's about humans.

Very heartening to read the responses on here to the ridiculous assertion that Starmer has questions to answer about having a voice coach (clearly work-related) during the pandemic. You don't have to be a rabid Labour supporter to see that much of the media is just trolling the government.

Today I visited my local surgery for a routine blood test. Found workers renovating the reception and a notice on display about a proper appointments system returning and an improved online service. Things are beginning to happen.

I keep reading posts here criticising the Government for something on the basis of a media article. So much reporting is disingenuous, gossip or lies that I now do my own fact-checking, and almost always find that what a Minister has said barely, if at all, accords precisely with what is reported.

Where would the media be without those modal verbs essential to every report: 'could', 'may' and 'might' (+ optional 'not')? Basically they mean you can publish any old crap without being accused of making things up. Couple that with 'sources' too precious to name and Bob's your uncle.
