This morning, the Bay of Fundy and I greeted eachother with a smile. A partial solar sunrise eclipse painted bold colours across the horizon, decorated with the silhouette of a ring-billed gull flying over head.

Illuminated by the glow of car headlights, this Snowy Owl perched along a rural roadside is a reminder of our shared responsibility for wildlife of the far North. Unfortunately, roads and vehicle collisions remain one of the leading causes of death for these Arctic wanderers.

Hundreds of NOAA employees are being fired by Trump and DOGE. The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US. A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans. Again, this isn't about efficiency.

The common loon - a sentinel of our watersheds. Sensitive to environmental contamination, their presence on oceans in the winter and on lakes in the summer can be a reflection of healthy ecosystems.
