Zach Morris is a wonderfully inventive designer, and their game Duck, Duck, Choose! is a delightful multi-victor game about reaching consensus and sharing with others (or not). I’ve loved playtesting this one and can’t wait to share it with my game group!

I’m very pleased to see this one begin to come together. It was the first design I ever brought to playtesting, and it’s had quite a journey! Threed has a unique ambiguous trick taking system with a spatial puzzle that tickles the right parts of the brain. I’ve got a soft spot for it. Check it out!

I occasionally see design discussion about trying to streamline your game around the 1st time people play it (due to risk of them not trying it again) and I think this is fair, but it also can lead you to scrub out all the cool weird stuff. Try sprucing up your rulebook/teach before smoothing stuff!

If you want to explore design territory that moves away from this focus on colonialist domination or capitalist productivity, start at the end: the game's outcome. What are players trying to accomplish and why? Do they really need to have the most, or is it reasonable to have enough?

My dog Yeti is getting surgery today. My logical brain knows it's gotta be done but my heart wishes it didn't have to be at all. It's so tough with animals because you just wanna tell 'em what's going on but you can't. Just gotta give them love and focus and hope they're able to get through it.
