This afternoon, I made a statement to the Scottish Parliament outlining the Scottish Government’s position on protecting children from harm. I confirmed my intention to establish a statutory public inquiry to consider Scotland’s response to group-based child sexual abuse and exploitation.

🤝 Out speaking to voters this morning ahead of the upcoming Glenrothes West and Kinglassie by-election, and discussing the opportunity to lower our energy bills through independence.

🎉 FM @johnswinney.bsky.social announced plans for a bank holiday on Monday 15 June to mark Scotland’s participation in the World Cup. ⚽ It will allow fans across the country to watch our men’s team’s first World Cup match in almost 30 years, while showcasing Scotland on the world stage.

👏 A strong answer from the First Minister, John Swinney, today that underlined the Scottish Government’s strong record on tackling crime since coming to power in 2007.

🥀 Since 2014, standards of living in the UK have improved little due to a failing economic system and Westminster decisions such as austerity and Brexit - neither of which were supported by the people of Scotland.

🩺 On BBC Debate Night I welcomed the £21 billion investment in our NHS delivered in Scot Gov’s Budget and the introduction of GP walk-in centres. 🥀 Earlier this year Labour MSPs chose not to support this investment. 💛 The SNP will always deliver for Scotland and continue put our people first.

🗣️ Tonight on BBC Debate Night, highlighted the Scottish Government's commitment towards tackling child poverty in Scotland. 💛 Thanks to this SNP Scottish Government, the Scottish Child Payment currently supports the families of over 326,000 children, including 24,920 here in Fife.

🥀 In Labour-run England and Wales, tuition fees were hiked to £9,535 just a year after Labour ended the freeze on fee levels. 📈 With inflation soaring under Keir Starmer, students in England and Wales could face fees close to £10,000 next year.

🥀 Labour just sacked a Scottish MP for standing up for Scotland, including disabled people and workers at Grangemouth. ❌ It is clear that Labour would rather have MPs backing Westminster austerity than standing up for Scotland. ‼️ Scots will remember this in 2026.

✅ The Education (Scotland) Bill has now passed at Stage 3 with the backing of the Scottish Parliament. 📝 A new qualifications body, to be known as Qualifications Scotland, will be formed to replace the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

✅ A record number of Scots from deprived areas secured university places in 2024. 🎓 The number of Scottish-based students securing places at home universities rose by over a third from 2016/17 to 2022/23. 💛 The SNP is supporting maintaining this progress, with our firm commitment to free tuition.
