How do you know as an international student when a room listing is legitimate or when you’re dealing with a scam? @tue.nl Electrical Engineering student Duarte Silva wants to help students answer that question. He developed the website Dormetrics, which analyzes listings for every possible red flag.

TU/e is launching a new university-wide flagship focused on advanced materials. The initiative has recently secured five years of seed funding and aims to strengthen collaboration across the university, while positioning @tue.nl as one of Europe’s leaders in next-generation materials research.

TU/e once again spent more money than it brought in during 2025. Last year's deficit amounted to 27.6 million euros, according to the @tue.nl annual report published this week.

Carlijn Bouten and Niels Deen have been appointed scientific directors of the new HEALTH institute and the existing EIRES institute, respectively, effective July 1. Bouten will become the first director of HEALTH; Deen succeeds Richard van de Sanden at EIRES.

TU/e has adopted a policy to restrict cooperation with certain institutions in China, Russia, and Iran. Several collaborations with Chinese partners have already been terminated, confirms Stefan Vermaat, manager of Knowledge Security at TU/e.

The Ministry of Defense wants to strengthen its collaboration with knowledge institutes, according to a Defense white paper published on Monday. Just last week, @tue.nl’s Executive Board approved a strategic plan aimed at expanding collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.

27 researchers affiliated with Dutch knowledge institutions have been awarded a European proof of concept grant worth 150,000 euros to help translate their research into real-world applications. Among them are three @tue.nl professors: Antoni Forner-Cuenca, Bas Overvelde, and Willem Mulder.

The first hydrogen-powered trucks have been driving on Dutch highways since this spring. @tue.nl researcher Rens Horst developed new materials that make the fuel cell—the heart of such a truck—more efficient, affordable, and sustainable. Today he will defend his PhD dissertation at TU/e.

In 2025, the confidential advisors at @tue.nl received 115 reports concerning inappropriate behavior, a decrease of more than 10 percent compared with 2024. This is stated in the annual report of the Integrity and Social Safety Desk.

From Dutch language courses to sports activities and day trips: students and staff staying in Eindhoven this summer can take part in dozens of activities through TU/e's Summer University. The initiative aims to keep the campus lively and connect people during the quiet summer weeks.

Too few women are enrolled in TU Delft’s Aerospace Engineering program, according to the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights. The program should therefore be allowed to give women an advantage in the admissions process, the institute advises.

The EU and Kazakhstan are set to deepen cooperation in science and research. The country is expected to join Erasmus+ and become part of Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme with an annual budget of more than €13 billion.

Employees at Dutch universities will receive a 3.1 percent salary increase as of July 1, along with a one-off payment of more than €1,500 and an additional €50 per month. These measures are part of a new collective labor agreement. Pregnant employees will also receive stronger protections.

The (H)eerlijk Parkeren parking system on the @tue.nl campus will be replaced by the Stadsparkeren platform in November. According to the university, one of the reasons for the switch is that the current system no longer meets privacy and security standards.

TU/e is restricting working from abroad, including so-called “workations.” Remote work from another country is generally not permitted, and exceptions will only be made in specific circumstances.

For months, one of the three elevators in the Built Environment building was out of service. Elevator traffic in Vertigo does not always run smoothly; recently, someone was even trapped for hours. Still, there are no more malfunctions than in other campus buildings, according to Campus & Facilities.

On the occasion of Neurodiversity Pride Day, extra attention is being paid on campus today to students who are, in one way or another, “wired differently.” Raising the flag is a symbolic moment, but throughout the year, the university mainly focuses on providing practical support.

The Dutch government believes that universities and universities of applied sciences are already managing cybersecurity effectively, meaning the government only needs to apply ex post supervision. The Inspectorate of Education will be responsible for monitoring compliance.

For the time being, there will be no screening of researchers and master's students in sensitive fields. “We’re still at the drawing board,” says Minister Letschert. “The current proposal was not feasible.”
