i love reading old scifi novels from the 50s and 60s because there's a weird combination of incredibly optimistic predictions of the future (flying cars! cities on the moon!) with hilariously outdated references to the past (everyone still smokes cigarettes, they still use rotary telephones).

i actually had a pretty productive morning. i played some more of the carnevale game, i did some miniature painting, and i even did a little bit of writing.

finally playing #carnevale with my printed hex map and new miniatures, trying out a 3-player game to see how it goes. i'm still learning the rules pretty much. in a few weeks i hope to get two of my friends to play. #tabletopgaming

my project last night was trying to make a hex-based map for the game carnevale. the setting is designed around square buildings, streets and straight canals, so fitting a hex grid to a square map like that was a bit of a challenge, but i think it turned out okay. #carnevale #terrain

you know, several years ago i wrote the first five chapters of a fanfiction adaptation of the he-man universe. the new movie comes out in june. i wonder if i could hurry up and finish the story in time for the movie to come out. (no, i could not, but it's fun to think about.)

tooth update: my stupid temporary crown fell out AGAIN, this time i actually heard a crack and i thought i broke it, this is the third time it has come loose. stupid crown, i can't wait until they can finally put the permanent one in.

i went to walmart after work this morning, got back to my car and the fucking thing wouldn't start. at least i was already at walmart, but i had to stick around for two hours before they could install a new battery. sometimes i think the universe is conspiring against me personally.

for my own mental health i don't post about the daily horrors happening in this country, but i would like to voice my belief that everyone in ice should be buried up to their neck in a pit of fire ants, and everyone in the current administration should be fed into a wood chipper, thank you.

i took this at work last night. the wire on the left is .035" diameter, the smallest we have, which i ran on my machine. on the right is .375" diameter which is our largest and was running on the machine opposite mine. i just think its neat to have them side by side like this.

i see a lot of posts saying stuff like "maybe it will happen today" and "hopefully he dies soon" and "he can't live much longer" but i don't think we'll be that lucky. the motherfucker will probably live to be 100 and we'll never be rid of him.

yesterday i was supposed to have my dentist appt to put my crown in, but they cancelled because the dentist is sick. today the damn temporary fell out again! so i go there so they can pop it back in, and the whole office is shut down because their pump system failed!

the only good news in my life right now is that orbit culture, behemoth, deicide, fleshgod apocalypse, amon amarth, and sabaton are all doing shows in milwaukee in the next few months. i literally jumped for joy when i saw the behemoth announcement last night.

got an email yesterday from a website where i buy things, saying my return was processed and i was given a full refund. so i checked my credit card, and the refund was indeed paid. the problem is that i didn't return the items and never requested a refund in the first place. but hey, free money.

i've been busy with some other projects and i've been slacking on playing board games, so here are some games i want to play in the next week or two.

i had a temporary crown put on my tooth last week and this morning it popped out while i was eating. had to run to the dentist so they could put it back on. do not recommend.

one of the projects i've been working on this week is for the game carnevale. here's all my minis for five factions (guild, rashaar, strigoi, doctors, vatican) although some of them aren't primed yet. i do intend to start painting them this year and play it more often.

i'm definitely bad luck for the packers. i can't fucking believe the bears won that game, haha.

tonight i got to play a cool little 2-player game called "king and assassins" where you try to kill the ruler of a country and i thought "hey that sounds cool i wish someone would do that in real life."

pretty sure that new avengers movie doesn't actually have a cohesive plot of its own. it looks like it will just be 3 hours of loosely-connected cameos from every actor who ever appeared in a movie based on a marvel comic. half-expecting lea thompson's character from howard the duck to show up.
