We want to compete with LinkedIn in the same way that Bluesky competes with Twitter. The point is to offer compelling decentralized alternatives so people aren't caught up in rent-seeking corporate walled gardens.

We occasionally get questions about whether we use AI. Yes. Just like Bluesky. Just like the majority of software projects these days. It's especially unrealistic to expect projects without serious funding to not use AI and try to compete.

We want to make ProtoPro work how you want with your broader AT Proto experience. There is now a setting that replaces button links to Bluesky with Deer Social instead.

The PDS Data Browser inside of ProtoPro now has syntax highlighting on the JSON viewer and a tab for exploring blobs (e.g. pictures and videos — your non-text data) Though many users may not need these tools, we want to empower power users to have control over their data!

We had an outage for a bit this morning! But half the internet did because AWS was down. Nevertheless, apologies for any inconveniences.

Some people are having trouble finding the invite codes, and we are re-examining the UX to make it more intuitive. We may need to add a dedicated "Home" link? Clicking on ProtoPro while logged in takes you here with the invites at the side. Feel free to swipe @ens0.me's, first come, first served.

Invites are now live on ProtoPro! All current users should have a couple of invite codes waiting for them.

We've got a lot brewing. We're soon going to be opening things up to more people. We've got more features cooking. And we'll have native apps in the near future as well. This is the future of professional social networking!

Just rolled out some major improvements to the feed experience, which was still sorely lacking compared to Bluesky, particularly around facets (mentions and links). It would detect links and put a rich link preview before, but now you can do thinks like @ people with a nifty autocomplete!

We are starting to build PDS data browsing features directly into @protopro.blue! I don't think this will matter for a lot of users, but a key thing to get some people on board is a lot more power over data than ever before.

ProtoPro is built on the same protocol as Bluesky, using the same accounts. Some people may want to keep their profile pics in sync between Bluesky & ProtoPro. Others may not. We're making that easy.

Apologies, an outage with Vercel's deployment system is preventing a full roll out of this feature at this time. You may be able to upload a ProtoPro-specific pfp, but the logic to display it instead of your Bluesky pfp isn't in production.

You can now set a separate profile picture in "Settings" for ProtoPro. Choose whether to keep your Bluesky & ProtoPro pfps in sync or show your professional side on one and the silly side on the other. (Also, it's fine to just use two different AT Proto accounts!)

We're excited about this change. We think the long-term success of AT Protocol — and paradoxically, Bluesky itself — rests on people not seeing AT Protocol as just "the Bluesky thing." This is a good step towards realizing that vision.

Lexicon update: previously blue.protopro.actor.profile had "linkedInUrl" and "githubUrl" These are now replaced with an array of "socialLinks" The ProtoPro app will handle this change gracefully

We plan on opening the app in three phases. 1. Closed Beta 📍YOU ARE HERE Gotta be manually added to an allowlist 2. Open Beta Existing users will be given invite code periodically 3. Full Launch Anyone can join without any roadblocks

Early ProtoPro users may notice that the feed lets you like posts but doesn't show you engagement numbers. We want to further enhance our built-in Bluesky post experience, but part of this is intentional design to keep the dopamine drip more slow. ProtoPro should be less focus-disrupting.
