Building a separate thread off my point here -- it has been broadly and accurately noted how the wider shift to so much being online first and foremost in the 21st century therefore means a lot of work is uncaptured in physical form. This is a problem on numerous levels... (1/x)

This is literally what I've been writing and podcasting about for years. I was planning to do an essay on this, but here's a š§µ. The main reason is psychology. Due to personal, family, and cultural histories, some people are inherently scared of the world.

One thing 2025 made clear: Durable progress on climate in the US will require structural reform to our corrupted political systems. Otherwise, steps forward will always be vulnerable to the bloody clawbacks we saw this year. A political strategy that doesn't center system reform is not "pragmatic."

They called them Near Abroad Direct Action Operations, NADA Ops. The "joke" in the CalSec cafeterias, which made its way out later in the hearings was that "What does the operator say when asked if there are civilians in the area? Nada...oops!". Even decades later, Arizona didn't find it funny.

Even if we assume it comes with good intentions, I fail to see how this relentless push to obscure the fundamental asymmetry of American politics by abstract equivocation and empty āboth sidesā rhetoric could possibly lead this country to a better place. We need to face reality.

Just tried watching Ezra Kleinās latest NYT podcast episode on how the U.S. got to this point where vaccines are so politicized. Itās pretty clear that Klein and his guestsāDavid Wallace Wells and Rachael Bedardāreally do not understand why/how the political right turned on vaccines.

Vaccination schedules on the CDC website have already started changing under RFK Jr. So we published a guide to the evidence-based vaccine recommendations in place *before* all 17 members of the advisory panel were abruptly dismissed by the new admin.

Every now and then it hits me that this isnāt just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture. That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. Itās historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories arenāt framed this way.

When you're watching sports, often you'll choose a team to root for. You expect your team to play to win, or at least to play. If they don't, you will probably stop rooting for them.
