This is a nice capsule history of what is itself a capsule history of the way neoliberalism descended into what we used to call populism, but now recognize as white supremacy trying to cover its tracks.

As you might expect of a celeb-driven “investigation,” Tapper/Thompson’s Original Sin (and this piece in the Nation) pins the 2024 election loss on Biden’s brain rather than four decades of Democratic neoliberalism, which has consistently undermined lip-service gestures toward social justice.

“For ideologues like Vought, who see Trump’s presidency as a vehicle to advance the unpopular goals they could never get through the actual democratic process, this has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Totally agree, tho I wonder what happens when Trump realizes he’s been played.

This article is the only thing I’ve read that gave me pleasure today.

Yesterday, Palestinians located the bodies of 15 aid workers in a mass grave in Gaza. One week after two ambulances were directly shot at by the Israeli military, the bodies of these Red Crescent workers were finally found handcuffed and crushed under their ambulances, concealed in a mass grave.

What do you say when you share a story like this? Words like “horrific,” “abominable,” “reprehensible” all fall short. It is a policy that makes you question the humanity of the people behind it.

It’s hard to say how awful this is. Anyone (but esp anyone with brown skin) can be arrested and deported to El Salvador (whether or not they’re Salvadoran) without any trial or due process. And the magats are now openly defying court orders. The coup is only intensifying.
