Big academic conferences coming up this Spring? Many people are feeling uncomfortable about attending with the impending attacks on Higher Education. Use your presentation space(s) to heal, organize, and strategize. These are places of critical mass. “Staying focused”doesn’t mean continue as normal.

History we can’t forget: Higher Education primarily exploded in the post-World War II era, particularly from the 1940s through the 1970s, driven by the GI Bill & a growing demand to have intellectual capital help a war & global advancement effort.

Apparently according to the Daily / NYTimes , the president of Columbia U took a deal that didn’t actually mean a return of the govt’s $400 million, but a deal to come to a negotiation table. That is pre-compliance & Higher Ed Leadership at its lowest. I hope students are looking to alternatives.

Teach March 17th and the “End of Apartheid” in South Africa. Others argue that it was April 27, 1994 when Black South Africans could actually voted in the general elections for the 1st time which enabled for the release & ascendency of Nelson Mandela as President.

Been saying this a lot recently: it’s important to continue to assert existing legal tenets and protections. Just because the admin says something doesn’t make it true or legal. If your response is “nothing in the law matters anymore,” that’s not particularly useful, nor actually true (for now)

This weekend is the 80th anniversary of BATTLE OF MANILA aka “The Manila Massacre” (Feb 3rd-March 3rd 1945). This was a month-long battle during WWII resulting in the deaths of 1000+ US soldiers, 16,000 Japanese soldiers, 100,000+ Filipinos, & the destruction of Manila 1/8
