In the case of R (Richards) v Parole Board of England and Wales [2026] EWHC 394 (Admin), Mirren succeeded in challenging a no-release decision by the Parole Board and its subsequent reconsideration decision, which found against the Claimant.

The Home Office refused to grant refugee status to a Jordanian woman who is transgender, claiming it is safe for a transgender woman to live as a woman and openly as transgender in Jordan, a claim with little or no truth according to sources.

Sarah-Jane Ewart successfully represented a protestor in an appeal against a conviction for wilfully obstructing a highway, arising out of a slow march protest for Just Stop Oil. SJ made proportionality arguments & submissions on the public interest. In the end the prosecution conceded the appeal.

In his first case back from almost 2 years of leave, Stephen Knight secured the quashing of an IPP sentence. Mr W had been sentenced to Imprisonment for Public Protection in 2009. He was over 14 years over tariff when Stephen took on his case.

Isabel Bertschinger represented the family of CW at the inquest into his death. The jury found CW’s medical cause of death (cocaine intoxication) was not identified by treating clinicians prior to CW’s death. It appeared in evidence that CW was not asked about drug use

Sophie Walker was instructed in a four-week inquest before Senior Coroner in East London Coroners Court into the death of Giedrius Vasiljevas. Giedrius was fatally shot by a Metropolitan Police firearms officer on the doorstep of his home after he called the police for help.

Rebecca Martin succeeded in appealing against a sentence of imprisonment for public protection. The Applicant received an IPP with a minimum term of 7½ years in 2010 for several armed robberies. He had served long past his tariff expiry date.

Our Crime Practice Group is firmly opposed to any attempt by the government to reduce access to trial by jury and increase sentencing powers in the magistrates’ and youth courts. We stand in solidarity with the vast majority of the Criminal Bar in committing to fight to stop these proposals.

Dharsha Jegatheeswaran represented two co-defendants charged with one count of aggravated trespass, arising from their activities as hunt monitors. On the day of trial, the Crown made an application for adjournment which Dharsha successfully resisted, forcing the trial to proceed.
