I had to take the day off from streaming fieldwork to patch a flat tire, but at least I still got to hang out with some *living* dinosaurs. The way that cliff swallows bank and turn in the wind with their wings swept back reminds me of a harrier jump jet, but like 100x more impressive

I'm not gonna say "This is what fieldwork livestreams are all about," because the less charismatic fossils and the surrounding sediments can be just as scientifically valuable and it's important to showcase that ...but this was still insanely cool to uncover live on camera

Sometimes you just need to leave dozens of your kids in a carefully-dug nest and then leave to never see them again. Try depositing multiple clutches each nesting season to improve the odds of reproductive success

If there's anything mothers really love, it's unsolicited corrections to (possible) minor factual errors

Even though the specimen's nickname is "Big Mama Oviraptor," it's likely that's actually a *male* oviraptorosaur on this nest (genus Citipati, I think?), especially if the males-brooding-the-nest thing we see in modern ratites reflects the ancestral condition in birds. #HappyMothersDay nonetheless
