Just ordered: compact portable washer (hooks to the faucet) and dryer (indoor vent filter). Excited to do laundry as it fills the machine, instead of finding two hours for the laundromat/folding/hanging to dry when I have nothing clean left. Also looking forward to shrinking my wardrobe accordingly.

Totally went down the Oregon housing rabbit hole today. Buying something > creating a co-op to buy something > finding land for a tiny house > plywood slab on grade technique (dubious) > passive tiny house plans > custom tiny houses > RV living > yurts. Welp, I'll continue to rent, I guess.

I did some thinking about what I'm hoping for from Bluesky. I want to know all about what is going on locally. I read primary sources for national/international news. Given this, it's such a relief muting all the non-local terms.

The UO School of Music and Dance has hundreds of videos of music recitals as well as upcoming live streams. Percussion, voice, wind, new compositions...it's a wide variety of professionally performed and recorded work.

The G5 makes other kinds of plant milks and soups, too. It's basically an InstantPot kettle with a blender in the lid. The buttons on the top have preprogrammed settings, so it's as easy as adding soaked beans, adding water, and pushing the button. 2/2

I don't usually buy or eat candy, but I ate about half a bag of Melting Pot Candy's Jalapeno Dark Chocolate Almond Toffee on the drive back to the valley from Newport.

The whole state is at the Newport Wine and Seafood Festival. Totally packed inside and a really long line waiting to get in. Had an incredible Dungeness crab melt, so many tasty candy samples, and a refreshing blackberry lime mocktail.

Stories are like mental sugar—we're drawn to them, but it's only recently that we've had them in such refined forms. To counteract this, I've decided to change my consumption habits. I want the stories I engage with to have a greater chance of leading to meaningful relationships. 6/9

I argue that the characters, actors, and personalities from these mediums take up space in our lives that should be filled by meaningful relationships. This leaves many of us, including myself, feeling strangely empty and fuels the urge to consume even more stories. 5/9

However, our culture has largely separated storytelling from small-group bonding. Instead of sharing stories, we consume them. Video games, movies, TV shows, books, and podcasts deliver a constant stream of narratives. 4/9

Originally, stories developed in small groups to bond and share knowledge. Some research suggests humans can maintain about 150 meaningful relationships. Our capacity for meaningful connections is limited, and storytelling is a key way to develop and maintain these bonds. 3/9

I recently decided to cut down on consuming entertainment news—that includes anything about books, movies, actors, TV shows, etc. Surprisingly, this covers a large chunk of daily articles. 2/11

If you're like me, you probably spend a good portion of your waking hours reading, watching, and listening to stories. For me, it's almost like an addiction, and I suspect I'm not alone in that. 1/11
