i worked this hard to overcome all that and create opportunity for myself and now im gonna waste it because im depressed? no way

music and art are very good things and its critically important that everyone keeps making it. it doesnt matter what happens on the way, this is your calling, this is what you were meant to do, so do it

in the past 10 years of trying to make this music dream work, ive been assaulted at shows, ive been bullied, manipulated, sexually assaulted, harassed.. even if making music is fun enough to outweigh these experiences, it sticks with me and its definitely whats causing my depression now

every day im still trying to make a net positive impact and working on becoming better, so i generally know what to do and commit to it. but i cant genuinely say that doing this has changed me on some fundamental level, its always gonna be more or less this and nothing else. gg

somewhere deep down i just completely dont think any of what im doing matters. even if i consciously know and understand that i can make a net positive impact and that it does matter, that part of me is simply gone, and my life now is mostly about figuring out how to navigate that

i kinda just have to accept that the same doors that are open to everyone else kind of just arent open for me, for reasons i cant change quick enough for it to still matter. it is what it is

i just think people generally really dont understand how it is to suffer for an extended amount of time, and i mean genuinely suffer, that kind of thing changes you permanently in ways that you dont get if you havent experienced it

as someone whos always been depressed and confused, i was a very easy target and ive been mistreated for my entire life. im 30 now with a job, its my first few years of not constantly getting some form of abuse, and a good amount of my problems today are really still just after effects of all that

whats crazy is that the biggest progress in someones art doesnt come from any big release and it comes from stuff like organizing things or working on your relationships or becoming a better, more reliable person. thats the kind of development most people dont look at (and it hinders them)

i just kinda realized that i dont have any dreams or hopes or ambitions or whatever because im depressed, and that just kills any of that stuff lol. sucks to do things when you have an illness like that but atp i can do what i want to do so thats progress

responses to this post are interesting to me because when i asked this ten years ago, most people said they want to play huge shows and change the world with their art. today most people seem to just want to make things and be left alone. i think its good either way, but never be afraid to aim high
