Speaker William Lenthall (a friend and relative of Chadwell's Sir Alexander Temple) told him 'I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as this house is pleased to direct me'.

This day December 22nd (1875), a fire destroyed the 'Goliath', a training ship moored in the River Thames at Grays. The wooden saiiling ship was, built in 1870, for ‘friendless and uncared’ boys. One officer and 19 boys were believed to have died in the disaster.

Sir Alexander Temple, who once live at Chadwell Place, signed his will on 21st November 1629. He died a short time later and was buried in Rochester Cathedral alongside his first wife.

Coincidentally, a year ago today, on World Diabetes Day, my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It's been a whirlwind of a year for her, with lots of adjustments to her lifestyle whilst coping with typical teenage angst and her GCSEs. I am so incredibly proud of how she has dealt with it.
