A few more photos from Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. We had no plans to go and entered the park at 3PM after the timed entry period ended for the day. It was a beautiful day and we ended with huckleberry ice cream in Grand Lake.

Yesterday was a five Moose day in Colorado. New single day record for 2026.

I am behind on posting, so here are some Moose. Moose #1 was in the Laramie Mountain right down the hill from the I80 summit rest stop. The other Moose were seen off 130 outside Centennial in the Snowy Range.

It’s so dry here. I drug the hose out to try to water down the grass but it’s mostly dust. I put a big bowl of water out for the gophers and the jackrabbits, there is no water anywhere around here if they needed some. We need rain or snow, anything would be good at this point.

Gusts up to 80mph tomorrow. Glad the fence isn’t fixed yet. 🙃

Large fire in making a run for Lake McConaughey, Ogallala Nebraska. This is the view from the Kingsley Dam webcam. If you know anyone on the north side of the lake, make sure they are aware of the situation.

Dust storm in Federal, Wyoming.

Taken from inside the house near Federal Wyoming. Winds are sustained around 50+mph and gusting above 60 mph.

It snows, it melts, the deer visit, then the wind returns. Repeat pattern.

Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming have had an unusual number of Red Flag Warnings issued in 2026, a trend that will likely continue. The Southeast has had above normal fire activity, but most states have more restrictive criteria as compared to 2-5+ years ago, resulting in fewer warnings.

A few pictures from Colorado this weekend. The Big Thompson Canyon Drive along 34 after a snow storm is very pretty.

Winter Weather Advisory for Denver just issued from 5a-8p for today, totals bumped up to 3-5” per NWS Boulder for the AM commute. Earlier start time may be part of what’s at play here. Expect a slick AM commute. #COwx

The cool thing about Wyoming is how quickly you can disappear into the wilderness when you need to.

Denver just hit 60° for the 40th time this winter season (since Dec. 1). That means 45% of our winter days have been 60°+. Also by far Denver’s most 60°+ winter days on record. Old record: 34 days, 1980-81. #COwx
