There's a buzz about our conference - bringing together leaders from the trade union movement, co-operative movement, and the heart of Government. 🐝 It's been a fantastic day for our Party and an incredible year for our movement - and we're only getting started.

We believe in the kind of politics that centres communities, and gives them power and ownership over the assets and amenities in their area. We believe in Community Britain.

Last week, we visited Evolve CIC in Nottingham with Co-operative Party Minister Alex Norris. Places like Evolve embody the spirit of Community Britain: local people taking ownership, changing their local areas for the better and building stronger communities.

Grassroots venues matter. They’re where local music, culture, and community come alive. Thanks to @musicvenuetrust.bsky.social and music lovers for bringing The Joiners and The Croft into community ownership. We can do even more of this with the new Community Right to Buy.

This week is Respect for Shopworkers Week. There's been a decrease in abuse towards shopworkers this year, but any abuse is too much, as @usdawunion.bsky.social find nearly three quarters of retail staff have faced verbal abuse from customers.

Today, we hold in our thoughts those lost to war and conflict. We will remember them.

A new Director General, a new Charter... a new model of ownership? It's all change at the BBC, but the change to a mutual model is well overdue. We think the BBC should be owned by you, the public.

On the back of over a decade of short-termism and division, co-operatives and mutuals stand for something lasting: purpose, fairness, and a future people can believe in. It’s how we make the economy serve people again.

🐝 In less than a month's time, our Conference will be taking place in central London, 15–16 November. This year we’re exploring how to put communities at the heart of politics through our flagship campaign, Community Britain.

Every community has people doing their bit to make life better for those around them. 💪 That’s the spirit behind Pride in Place, and it’s what the co-operative movement has always stood for: people working together to build stronger places, just like @kirstyjmcneill.bsky.social says.

We met with the BBC today, to make the case that when Labour and Co-operative representatives appear on the national broadcaster, they're listed as just that - Labour and Co-operative.

Many people feel like no matter how hard they work, they still can’t get ahead, while the wealth their communities create is taken elsewhere. @jimmcmahon.co.uk says it’s time to return to co-operative principles: building together, sharing the rewards, and reinvesting locally.

Labour & Co-operative MPs used today’s Westminster Hall debate to highlight that co-ops are part of Britain’s economy, not apart from it. Together, we're working to double the size of the co-operative sector.

Have you ever felt politics is too remote: that decisions happen to you, not with you? Pride in Place could change that. It’s about bringing people around the table to shape their place and drive the change they want to see.

A Co-operative Development Unit will help turn investment into real community power, making it a key part of the Pride in Place programme. In Parliament, Andrew Pakes MP set out how co-operative development can turn regeneration into life changing local ownership.

As the Minister says, the values of the co-operative movement run through the Pride in Place programme. Co-operative MP Paul Waugh is right: this is a vote of confidence in local places and local people.

By giving local people enhanced powers to buy community spaces, more assets will be owned and shaped by the people who use them, love them and want to keep them in the community.

This agenda is fundamentally what our campaign, Community Britain is about: turning communities into a serious economic and political force - giving people real power over the places they call home. Not just shaping their future, but owning it.
