This week I attempted to build a Minecraft Fabric mod. Never done it before. Initially, every rebuild (with missing dependencies) took half an hour. Took me hours to fix. Now, I have it building for 1.21.8, but it crashes on launch. It injects into a render function I need to update..

Today has been a very entertaining day. The Samsung Z Fold7 is the exact same thickness as the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 (outside of the camera bump, of course). All they need to do is switch away from the flexible screen, and it might be on my radar as my next phone.

After multiple years, I finally took some time to disassemble my Surface Book 2's performance base so that I could unplug the battery, which was misbehaving. Now the base no longer keeps disconnecting, allowing me to install NVIDIA drivers for the GTX 1050 inside. That was unnecessarily difficult.

Missed opportunity for Nintendo: the Switch 2 game cartridges should count as external storage that store the base game and all future updates. That way they're still useful, and you can reserve the console's storage for digital downloads. (saves still kept exclusively on console/cloud, of course)

For how cool & powerful SteamVR is, the core experience feels pretty poor. Especially loading into games/apps - it's just your background with a little icon indicating what game is about to launch. And if Steam crashes, you can't relaunch it from within the SteamVR view itself.

I'm in the process of building my personal library now that I actually have the space for a bookshelf. Attempting to find all 15 books of a series with a matching 2007 cover when the first book was released in 1994 & even books released in 2017 are out of print is *difficult* and so time consuming.

While working on @07craft.com it's been fascinating seeing just how much RuneScape-related software is open source. Various communities just.. making cool tools and renditions deciding to simply share it all with the world.

Every time I switch back to Overwatch after playing a couple hours of another shooter (this time FragPunk, which I'm really enjoying!), I am reminded just how beautifully executed the audio design in Overwatch is. They've honestly made something magical.

This is a crazy take from someone at Fedora. OBS 30.1.0 & above use a runtime last updated in Oct-2024 and marked EOL prior to our Jan-2025 release. Newer versions of it have critical bugs that we didn't want to pass to our users - we instead reported them upstream. Apparently that's bad?

Troubleshooting @obsproject.com bug reports is always incredibly educational. One of our users reported a bug, introduced in the updated browser code. Eventually, it was tracked down to some code in Chromium that has been unchanged for 9 years. Quite sure it affects Casting from Chrome, too.

Finally got both my Minecraft servers updated to 1.21.4 so I can close the 4 SpigotMC tabs I had open to remind me the order in which to upgrade the worlds. Leaving tabs open as a reminder really doesn't work when you have no time to work on things. It took 2 weeks. 😂

Apparently the Overwatch executive team believe a main menu link to Match History isn't important enough (it currently takes 2 clicks to get to), but a *second* shop tab, labelled "Maximilien's Vault," is important enough. Even the 6v6 experiment didn't get this priority treatment.

Giving my PC time to boot is... fun. Quite sure this is somehow caused by WSL. No idea how to debug it.

I have two Windows 11 laptops that are permanently connected to power in my dining room. One is my work laptop, which I RDP into over ethernet, the other is my personal laptop. *Both* will randomly spin up their fans to full speed when unused, for no reason. Even at night. No idea why.

After doing a watch together of Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis with friends, we've shifted to Dark Matter. We've nearly finished S1, & the amount of times one friend comments on something that's not *fully* explained, and then it's explained *in-show* 2 seconds later has happened *multiple* times. 😂

Apparently since MCEdit died, so did the ability to arbitrarily rotate schematics on an axis. I had to write a janky Python script to re-arrange the blocks/data NBT directly. (The old image-to-schematic tool I use places blocks upright, which is unwanted in my use case) Maybe Litematica PR time?

I'm revisiting bulk map editing for @07craft.com, and I'm noticing just how much of a hole was left behind when MCEdit was abandoned 6 years ago. I can't find a single tool updated since that comes anywhere close to the versatility and power. I guess I have to write a WorldPainter script?

The same weird claustrophobic feeling I get when using macOS / Linux also occurs when I play Paladins or, newly, Marvel Rivals. The same does not occur with Windows & Overwatch, respectively. I just played a couple of hours of Marvel Rivals, and the moment I was back in an OW match I felt lighter.

Being a JavaScript developer by day, I love being able to carry over knoweldge and skills to personal projects. So this weekend I successfully enabled hot reload in Java for Minecraft plugins in VS Code.

Started revisiting all my folders & tools for @07craft.com because I miss working on it, and damn Minecraft have changed a whole bunch of resource pack internals.. in inconsequential ways. I was able to upgrade the server from 1.12 to 1.20.4 really easily. @blockbench.net is incredibly cool though!

I'm in the process of restoring an old project's website. I'm looking for a simple tool to generate a basic HTML website out of some Markdown files that I can host on GitHub Pages. Already tried sitedown but it doesn't work with modern Node and fails to copy assets. Any suggestions?

I'm still loving my Surface Duo 2 and I'm not excited for a future where I have to downgrade to something lesser. I really enjoy having two separate glass screens.

After playing a lot of Overwatch Classic, I better understand why Overwatch 2 still feels strange to play. Overwatch 1 had faster time-to-kill, Ult generation, and respawns. Plus less healing. This resulted in more happening in a fight, especially with support ults. Now everyone's a bullet sponge.

With Overwatch Classic out, I revisited a few of my own Highlights & POTG clips from OW1. Because of this, I figured out why the Overwatch 2 HUD still feels out of place for me: *opacity*. Overwatch 1 had a more transparent HUD, and it felt MUCH better to me. Here's an edit I made, with reference.

When your hands get home row wrong (and you weren't looking) but Spotify still correctly guesses what you meant. How on earth?!

Finally rebuilt my voice satellite for Home Assistant after the SD card corrupted itself a while back. I got lucky because the more useful configuration files were intact, but I did actually spot one file that *did* get corrupted - the simpler config. *phew*

Good news on this one, the refactor ended up being *really* simple and as predicted - completely solved the issue. Programming's funny - sometimes you try every "easier" solution you can think of, and the one you were dreading ends up being the simplest & most reliable. Fewer bugs is good though!
