v1.3.4 is Now Available! What's in it? I made a video so you can find out if you should update... which you should... because it's a really good update. Improvements to the commercial break detection system, a new pop out window for dual monitors and a number of bugs squashed.

v1.3.4 is in review with Apple and should be available soon! You now have the ability to detach the video preview player. Besides a number of bug fixes (all detailed on the website) the big update is commercial break detection is MUCH FASTER!

Taking a break from trying to get the word out and shifting back to bug hunting and optimization. Although the commercial break auto-clipping tool is far better than it was in early development, I'm focusing on speeding it up! Hoping to get these addressed this week, expect an update early next week

v1.3.3 has been sent to Apple. Fixes for clip background coloring, as well as clip merging. Cleaned up some UI and made the Audio to Video utility far more efficient and reduced the file sizes orders of magnitude by switching from .mov to .mp4

Thank you everyone that beta tested Video Barbershop. Hopefully you saw the message posted to the build in TestFlight that it was coming to an end. I didn't see a simple way to send a message to the testers in TestFlight... preventing spam I guess? Seems like that would be a nice feature.

Alright! v1.3.2 is out and there is a very good chance this will be the final ship build. Looks like it's pretty solid and I'll submit for official release on the Apple App Store next week! It's been about 9-10 months in development, and I'm really proud of how far its come in that time.

I realized I could speed up commercial break detection. I don’t have actual stats on the difference but it’s looking like it’s pushing 25x faster 😬😂

v1.3.0 has been pushed live, with it a much needed boost to loading videos and background audio caching, dramatically speeding up your editing!

Was able to track down some performance crippling bugs dealing with clips and audio, as well as timeline scrubbing slowness. Hopefully should be cleaned up this week.

v1.2.9 is live… some additional metadata template functions, and some tweaks, but the main addition is finer control of audio and video bitrate on export. Before I was just letting the OS calculate the best quality but that’s a bit silly with fuzzy SLP VHS. 😂

One of those days. Thought v1.2.7 was about to go live then noticed a big bug. Had to fix and resubmit so maybe Thursday? Anyway, work for 1.2.8 creeped in, but we’ll just call it 1.2.7. 😂

v1.2.6 is now available! Helpful transform buttons and a total revamp of the template language. Was actually approved faster than I expected, but I’ll get new videos up about the metadata grammar shortly.

v1.2.6, which should be available shortly, adds helpful buttons to automate common VHS video transformations, like correcting the aspect ratio of an upscaled video, or fullscreening for social media. I also show how you can pan and track subject matter after cropping.

Today metadata in Video Barbershop officially turned to plaid. I got recursive parsing working, which begged should I add branching logic, and things got so silly with embedded braces that I put Lisp to shame… so now I’m working on a macro system. Metadata templates might be Turing complete.

Great day bug fixing. Finally fixed an annoying video preview bug that was not playing nice with anchors and changes to resolutions and aspect ratios. Next weeks update should also contain a couple helpful details related to video scaling as well. Making strides towards launch! 🚀

This week I got working metadata management and output logs! Still some polish needed but talking to @faroutvhs.bsky.social about cataloging inspired this addition. Fully customizable. Doing things like YouTube chapter markers for merged clips is trivial. Really excited with this feature! Next week!

v1.2.0 Beta has been approved and is live on TestFlight! The big addition is keyframes added to most of the clip editing controls. I just finished timeline zoom controls, v1.2.1 Beta, and will be getting that in the queue for hopefully a Friday update.

Started working on timeline zooming and slider UI. Got the sliders working with the video timeline… clip timeline is going to be a beast but hopefully get working in the next couple days!

Alright, v1.2.0 Beta is off to Apple for approval. In it some bug fixes and polish, but the big addition is keyframing! Video tutorials coming this weekend. Due to the holiday, Monday, I expect it approved and will go live Tuesday. Be on the look out! You can do some really cool animations now!

Keyframing rollout going well. About half the controls have it now. Audio, oddly, proved tricky in addition to the fade in/out controls. Had to put on my thinking cap for that one. But should have them all in by the weekend. So I expect an update live early next week.

Keyframing and controls are fully prototyped out for watermarking. Next week I’ll roll it out to all other controls and get a build together for TestFlight. Then I need to get off the fence and decide if I want to develop subtitle editing or just bug fix and ship. Either way getting close to ship!

v1.1.7 is in the TestFlight queue to be approved. Some new features related to audio. Started work on keyframe additions and got a working prototype done as proof of concept. Next few days I’ll be rolling it out to all the features that could support it. Pretty exciting stuff.

Frequency visualization allowing for fast analysis coming in Video Barbershop, to track down and eliminate clicks with ease. Apply audio filters and compare with the original frame by frame. Look for it in v1.1.5 Beta.

Had a hiccup with v1.1.1 Beta and waiting on Apple for approval. Hopefully 1.1.2 will be available shortly. In the meantime I’ve been adding some audio file support utilities for audio-to-video and video-to-audio converting, so depending… 1.1.4 might bite at its heels.

v1.1.1 Beta update should hit Monday, in it the big new feature is Text Overlay. Especially exciting foundation to build a fully featured subtitle management system in the future! Learn more:

v1.1.0 is in the queue for TestFlight. Probably will go live Monday, but you never know if Apple approves it sooner. Some bug fixes, clip adjustment additions, but most excitingly is text overlay. Videos of these new features coming soon.

Clip Flair is the latest addition in v1.0.7 soon to be updated in the beta. Define custom colors for specific clip lengths to keep track of commercials or stingers as opposed to programming. Valuable when using the new automatic commercial clipping tools. App settings to customize.

It’s a fine line between a great idea and feature creep.

I created this commercial compilation 100% with Video Barbershop. Used a new feature at the end, replacing video with an image and keeping the audio. In total, spent maybe 15 minutes putting this video together.

Video Barbershop is in its final stages of development and will hopefully be available in the coming month on the Apple App Store!

This ad on the back of the Onion pretty much sums up why Video Barbershop was created.
