It's funny to image a world where Thomas Pynchon is just your regular guy writer who does all the usual press but still writes the exact same books, putting out Inherent Vice in 2009 and getting asked a thousand times over "sooo ...do you like The Big Lebowski?"

Finished Inherent Vice. It was my second read-through, with my first reading back when the PTA film was recent. I find myself reading the book on and off in Joanna Newsom's voice. She should have recorded the audiobook. It's something I'd play in the background of doing household chores.

I feel like I might start watching the 14 Basil Rathbone Sherlock Homes movies in order, starting in the New Year. I've never seen any before (or much Sherlock adaptations in general), but I loved reading the stories in my teens. It'd give me an excuse to go through the stories again, too.

VERTIGO is up next, and I do think there's a trans argument within the film, but I primarily chose it as a gesture of love to Candy, because Kim Novak was her North Star. She idolized her, and I idolized Candy. It's my way of thanking her to put those two alongside one another on TCM tonight.

I grew up watching westerns on TCM when I spent the summers with my grandparents. I have these very specific memories of watching classics with my grandfather as the sun was rising. Both of us half asleep. And in a couple of hours I'm going to be on TCM. Life is strange and wonderful sometimes.

My wife is on TV tonight! And because she conducted her segments remote, you can observe our kickass CD collection on the wall behind her.

This is an actual frame from a movie that Disney released in cinemas. Seemingly dozens of people involved in production looked at this, said, "yup this is fine" and it made the final cut. No back to the drawing board? It's clearly missing layers. The parts aren't connecting at all.

Been reading Jasper Sharp's Behind the Pink Curtain: The Complete History of Japanese Sex Cinema on and off for a couple months. It's a stellar book. I think I'm gonna watch my first Kōji Wakamatsu & Masao Adachi film tonight. The Embryo Hunts in Secret seems like a good starting point.

When it became clear that Shout Factory webstore exclusive discs would be going away I had to grab Deadly Outlaw: Rekka (2002), which spurred me to buy the other recent limited run Takashi Miike classic, Fudoh (1996) on 4K from Media Blasters. These are 2 of Miike's best films, get em while you can.

I always enjoy seeing a new Lanthimos film and generally enjoy the spaces he creates, but he's too nihilistic to my liking, and his endings tend to irk me. I had fun with Bugonia until the final stretch. If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, on the other hand, now that's a great film. Byrne for Best Actress

The second ends on a blooper reel as if it's a Jackie Chan movie. That ruled.

Dang, this Mark Dindal rocking it with two solid feature films in a row, both bursting with personality and quirks, the second movie an obvious improvement over the first. I can't wait to check out this third movie of his to see if he can keep this streak going.
