Loving how much focusing on theater of the mind just feels like an improvement to VTT play. Maybe it is also just because it is #daggerheart? Seems to bring more engagement and creativity to everyone. Only bringing the maps back to the fore for combat, I think.

Apropos to nothing #ttrpg related this patience game, discovered by my 8 year old, has become a bit of an obsession. Love that there is basically always a way to win as long as you play it well. Still feels fresh every time. Pack of cards is still hard to beat for all kinds of fun.

Watched Jaws with my 8 year old for the first time. He loved it. Biggest commentary was wondering why everyone smokes and, “this movie has a lot of bad words. I don’t like it. 😂

@norsefoundry.com’s Storybook line of dice is gorgeous. Picked up at #gencon Snagged lapis lazuli and couldn’t be happier. Look so nice and feel great in hand. Now we just need them to get together with #daggerheart for some hope and fear dice. 😏

Last day of #gencon for me and it’s been awesome. Played some fun games with friends, bought some dice, and then bought more dice. Also met awesome people from Darrington Press who I couldn’t say enough awesome things about. And all that #daggerheart news is 👌. These folks are doing it right.

Thanks to @dodoborne.com for sharing with a bunch of great ideas. Already started doing some of these with my in person group but plenty more to learn to let those dice help drive the story forward and not just be an extra thing.

On another note I’m working to hold back from over planning this session. Barely scratched the surface of my initial plans for session 1. Instead I’m trying to reuse, improv, and insert my different ideas into session 2 as they arise. Still hitting my “beats” from #daggerheart core book, too.

Running session 2 of #daggerheart this weekend with a beautiful @dysonlogos.bsky.social map. But how do you slowly reveal the map to players #ttrpg friends? Printed 2x3 ft. Just cover with construction paper? Going to use it as a reference and then draw a room on my flipmat for combat.

Started the latest by @chuckwendig.bsky.social and it’s already a banger. His characters always feel authentic, imperfections and all, and I am delighted to have no idea where it is going. That staircase in the woods could go anywhere.

Latest @naturolls.bsky.social, l'd say, was a success but definitely ended with some tears. Let's just say death moves in #daggerheart are legit. We followed the fiction and though the end result was tough for PCs it was a genuine move forward for the characters. 🥺

Think I first encountered this from The Lazy DM but this is critical to building out your world. It is easy to make rumors, hints, and secrets to share and you never know which they will seize onto. This makes it perfect to expand your world, without a ton of prep, based on their interest. #ttrpg

GM Tip: Use rumors to seed the world. True, false, or exaggerated—rumors let you foreshadow, misdirect or hint at deeper plots without committing upfront. #ttrpg #dnd #rpg

#daggerheart session 1 with this new group was a hit. A lot of meta talk and the main suggestion was to use a grid for combat. Had some social encounters and ended with thief’s approaching. Outpost town environment was a win, too. @demiplane.com character sheets also worked perfect for me. 🥰

Doing final prep for #daggerheart session today and decided to make @demiplane.com character sheets for in person players. Had such a good experience with digital sheets and @naturolls.bsky.social thinking it’ll help me keep track of player abilities, etc and they keep their paper sheets.

GMing in person session 1 #daggerheart tomorrow morning and can’t wait. Got a great start, a fun opening map, and lots of little secrets that I can share. Should prolly also tell them although they can fight all the enemies they don’t have to - they’re new to #ttrpgs. 😏

Being new to #ttrpgs I feel like the thing I love the most is the unexpected. Moments are had that I could never quite craft on my own and this mutual creation is just 👌.

Resisted over planning a ton today. Had some outlines I wanted to setup for my upcoming session 1 but have no idea if anyone will visit these locations. Did come up with ideas that would work in any of the locations. Figure I can flavor them a bit differently and it should work great. #ttrpg

Spent some time today on my in person #daggerheart session coming up and the environment and environment stat blocks are a gold mine. Such a great way to bring your setting to life and keep driving the fiction forward; real consequences bring challenges PCs enjoy.

Was driving to work and just had a banger of an idea to work into the end of my current #daggerheart arc. SUPER excited for this one. Will have real consequences for some PCs and all drives the fiction forward. Real consequences make it exciting, right?

This one has a ton of very silly fun and role play in it. Definitely remember starting to feel like I was getting to know Maz more. I’ll be listening, too! Would love to hear what folks think.

Went out to a concert for the first time in years last night. Queens of the Stone Age put on an awesome live show. Couldn’t recommend enough. Don’t recommend staying up til 1am to get woken by 8 year old at 6am. 😴

I’m eight books deep into Prachett’s Discworld series and I feel like I get it now. Such a wry wit and satire that lands with ease. Other passages are beautiful and poignant and hit on deeper themes that could be easy to miss. Can’t wait to go through the rest of #discworld.

Very pleased with this map coming along from @dysonlogos.bsky.social. Both fits what I wanted and expands for some more ideas in my upcoming #daggerheart session. Some areas have plans while others don’t - going to make them with the PCs if they decide to go there.

Love my dice tray from Weird WoodWorking but not sure I have room for another at my table. Any suggestions for a favorite tray that doesn’t take up a ton of room? Want a shared one for my players who are new to #ttrpgs. Running #daggerheart

My brain keeps firing off little connections between these upcoming sessions and it is so satisfying. I love how one idea molds and shifts naturally as I look at more areas, NPCs, and even building encounters. Each one affects the other and I love it.

On a separate note though thinking in “beats” has been so helpful for my planning and amongst the reasons the #daggerheart core book is so good. The arc break downs, too, are 👌 My brain wants to over think most things but this leaves plenty of breathing room for my players.

One thing I wish the corebook for #daggerheart had is a list of adversary features. I see it on @demiplane.com but the list is blank? Making some encounters for session 1 so I won’t have to make it all on the fly.

Getting some stuff together for my session 1. Trying to think about a beginning and potential end for arc 1 and then adding in some secrets and clues to be discovered. I’ve got a few areas they could also choose to explore but don’t have to. Bunch of NPCs ready..what am I missing?

I’m excited that my Switch 2 pre order shipped. But I can’t get my brain off planning for my session 1 for my second #daggerheart group.

Making plans for session 1 of #daggerheart real excited. The group wanted me to make most of the story decisions but had one suggestion: a timer, that goes off regularly, and something bad happens when it does..to the group or people around? First question, what should it do? Then mechanics next.

My character, Maz, is babysitter of the year, here. Trust me.
