Whilst wet weather might not be everyone’s cup of tea, Kew’s Mycologists are celebrating this rainy #FungiFriday, with hopes it will instigate some welcome fungal activity! Many fungi use rain to spread their spores, such as often-over-looked bird’s nest fungi, also known as “splash cups”.

Our team recently came across these beautiful drawings of wild flowers in Libya. They were made by Jocelyn Russell in 1940s. Her Mechanised Transport Corps was stationed in North Africa during WWII and it was during this time that she made illustrations of the plants she saw. #KewLA #Wildflowers

🌿 Species of the Month: Florida Govenia Endemic to the Everglades, Govenia floridana was unlike anything else in south Florida - pleated dark green leaves, delicate white flowers, and limited to the rare and unique tropical hardwood hammock habitat 🧵👇

It's #FungiFriday! And as we enter late summer here at Kew it appears our gardens have been invaded by giant round white objects. From a far these might look like footballs or slightly deflated white balloons, but they are in fact fungi known as Giant Puffballs!

With the Palm House set for restoration in 2027, we dipped into the archives to see how our iconic glasshouse has been cared for over time. One surprising find?
